Israir´s On-Board Torah Challenges El Al

(IsraelNN.com) Israir airline passengers soon will be able to hear the Torah being read on flights to and from New York, a move that is likely to mean more trouble for El Al. The country's national carrier has lost traffic due to its having flown on the Sabbath, following a strike that left passengers stranded at airports.

A South American rabbi, Shlmo Elharar, came up with the idea of keeping a Torah scroll on board. It is dedicated to the Colombian chief rabbi and to fallen IDF soldiers. The scroll has been completed in Florida by an authorized Torah scribe and will be received in Israel with the traditional celebration for welcoming a new Torah scroll.
