Shalom Chaim,
I was somewhat miffed by your answer to my Ask JTF comment. Yes, majority of Georgians supported Stalin, but so did majority of Russians and even greater majority of Jews - there was a mass hysteria and fanatism in USSR at that time.
My point is that yes, we should support what is good for Jews, but at the same time, we need to have a universal moral compass and a sense of loyalty. Jews live in Georgia for more than 2500 years and never was an episode in history when Jewish people were hurt in Georgia because of their origin. Russia, on the other hand, represents a history racism, xenophobia and pogroms.
Mr. Saakashvili is a Harvard educated lawyer, fluent in 5 languages, democratically elected, most pro-Western president of the little country which is very friendly to Israel and USA. Georgian killed Ossetians like Polish killed German border guards in 1939 to provoke an invasion of Poland. About 300,000 Georgians expelled from Ossetia by Russians in 1992.
I hoped your statement in support of Georgian people would be much stronger!
Shalom ahi!
