He is a strong supporter of Israel.  He knows a lot of people and is proficient in raising a lot of funding.  He would probably know which type of churches would be willing to join in the cause. 

He doesn't believe Israel should have to give up any land.  He was against Ariel Sharon's decision to give up Gaza.

Speaking of Kofi Annan and the U.N. for anyone who is interested there is a great book about the U.N. and its uselessness called "Tower of Babble."  It is written by the former Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. whose name if I remember correctly is Dore Gould.  It is a great, detailed account of the history of the U.N. and all its blunders.
