The FBI has over 2000 pages of monitoring they did to the "dangerous" JDL.  It has been released in Freedom of Information Act.     So why was J Edgar Hoover so terrified of JDL if JDL was working for him?  LOL.   In one of the documents he chastises the NY field office for not infiltrating JDL successfully enough to his liking and not getting enough information from them.  Yes, the document sent by J Edgar Hoover himself.

There were informants within the ranks of JDL informing to the FBI about the group's operations and helping them keep tabs on Rabbi Kahane and his plans/events.    At the same time, Rabbi Kahane never seemed too worried about that because he was convinced that there was nothing wrong with what he or his group was doing.   So the snitches, and they knew there were snitches, did not seem to faze him.  At least from what I've read.

He also said Rabbi Meir Kahane was banned from the JDL.
