Was there widespread opposition to fascism in Croatia from the beginning of WW2 like there was against Mussolini with the partisans who hid in the mountains and rural areas of italy? I do recall reading that there were some partisans in Croatia against the Nazis but what was the extent?. I'm open for the facts. If so is there any evidence of this?

One of the central squares in Zagreb is Square of the Victims of Fascism. Anti-Fascist Struggle Day is a national holiday in Croatia. Three of my family members were killed in Jasenovac as Croatian antifascists. The fourth joined the partisans and the Serbs killed him after the war for being a Croat.

While I celebrate the defeat of fascists, I don't celebrate the victory of partisans and their Greater Serbia despotism.
