Ask JTF for Sunday February 7, 2010
« on: January 30, 2010, 04:45:16 PM »
Dear Chaim, I have three questions regarding health.

1. What foods do you recommend for brain health? I heard that blueberries, fish, and almonds are some good examples. Are there any others?

2. I heard that oatmeal lowers cholesterol. Is this true? Maybe that's where the "healthy as a horse" expression comes from.

3. How healthy can Chinese food be? I'm sure in China, they don't eat any of the deep fried crap that you'd find in most so-called Chinese restaurants. Plus I'm sure they don't eat as much as meat as the Americans.

Dear Chaim,

I think that we should stop promoting Ira's videos on youtube. Her videos make JTF look bad, and some of them attack you personally. I don't see how someone with no previous knowledge about JTF who sees her videos could take JTF seriously. When I asked her why she won't join our forum, she replied sarcastically. She definitely is no friend of ours. Instead of making sticky threads with Ira's videos, we should focus more on 4international's videos on the forum. 4international makes excellent, professional videos in contrast to Ira's lame, repetitive nonsense.

Shalom chaim

There are mitzvot between "Man" and Hashem and human beings with each other.  Are there any basic mitzvot that include both?  What are they? Can you explain why they are both?

Also, there was a little topic about giving to charity on the forum.  My understanding is that a minimum of 10% and maximum 20% of one's income can be given to charity.  However, one person on the forum mentioned that it is a maximum of 10% of one's income since the third temple isn't built yet.  My mother tells me to go easy on giving to charity because 30% of our income that is tax dollars goes to the Schwartzas.  Chaim, is there a way to convert those tax dollars towards giving to righteous causes such as JTF, cure for diabetes/cancer/heart disease, Kolel, Chabad, etc?  I truly believe that when one gives to good causes appropriately, there is more blessing in one's home.

Thank you

Dr. Dan

Shalom Chaim,

If an Israeli leftist, lets say Tzipi Livni, let you make Aliyah in condition (were you had to sign a contract) stating that you stop Jewish activism and if you were caught you automatically be banned from Israel forever.
Would you take her up on the offer?
If yes would you risk Jewish activism or just marry a Jewish woman and have Jewish children?
If no would that mean that you are violating Gd's command to live in Israel?

Gd Bless you, your loved ones and every Jewish person who loves Israel.

Shalom Chaim,

1: What is your opinion of the brutal "Process of National Reorganization" military regime that ruled Argentina in the late 1970s? On the one hand, several of its leaders were anti-Semitic. On the other, the Argentine Jews (and Gentile Argentines) that it arrested and/or executed, such as the slimy snake Jacobo Timerman (yimach schmo) were traitors who sympathized with communists and terrorists such as the Montoneros and the blacks in the "Spear of the Nation" in South Africa. One college professor that I had, a secular Jew with extensive experience in Argentina, taught the class that although this government had clear anti-Jewish sentiments and was very oppressive and barbaric, it did not actually enact anti-Semitic policies. I know that Israel had an alliance with the Process; was there a good reason for it or was this typical Israeli Bolshevik stupidity? What is your take on this period?

2: In honor of Schvartze History Month, please discuss the battle record of the South African Defense Forces and their dark-skinned opponents in the ANC and the Angolan/Mozambican armies. Just refresh us, what exactly was the ratio of casualties of South African soldiers to their simian adversaries (wink, wink)? How well did the negro "freedom fighters" of southern Africa do when they faced off against white soldiers? For all of the black military "heroes" that the media worships during this month, how come we don't hear about the heroic warriors of the ANC and ZANU/ZAPU and their "excellent" fighting prowess against the white southern Africans? Why is this, Chaim? I'm dying to know!

G-d bless you, Dr. Brennan Fan

Shalom Chaim!

What do you think of how Aaron wasn't able to control the Israelites while Moshe was up with Hashem on mount Sinai?  Why did Aaron allow them to build the golden calf and it seems according to the text that it was even his idea to build the calf.

The other day after i did the shma and the shmona esre prayers while i had my teffillin on, i suddenly felt a great sense of sadness and overcame with emotions and started to cry.  I felt the pain of the Jewish plight in my soul and just felt the sorrow and actually started to shed tears and cry. I'm not the crying type if u know what i mean, so it was a bit weird.  Has this ever happend to you or someone you know...or am I just losing my mind?

Thanks and may Hashem Bless!

What is your opinion about Rabbi Yohanan Ben Zakkai? Was he a tzadik for saving the Yeshiva system at the time or should he have fought harder to save the second temple instead? How does this relate to some of the modern Yeshivas in Israel today that favor giving in to the Arabs in exchange for funds from the Israeli government?
Does it bother you that you have to face the dome and the rock to say the sh'ma?

Chaim,

Last week you mentioned Robert Manning, who is in prison.  Can you tell us a little more about his work in the JDL?

I looked him up on the Internet.  The LA Times says he was involved in the Alex Odeh bombing.  I read the ADL web site section on the JDL - not a site I trust!  They said he and his wife were involved in the letter-bombing death of Patricia Wilkerson.  Who was she?

The ADL says: "The letter-bomb incident had no connection to JDL activities but was instead an attack contracted by William Howard Ross, a fellow JDL member who had a long drawn out business dispute with the owner of the firm where the secretary worked."

They further state that William Howard Ross was sentenced to life in prison for contracting with Manning.

I don't trust them and would love to hear the truth.

Shalom Chaim!

I was listening to Pat Robertson, interviewing the former PLO terrorist Walid Sheobat.  When Pat Robertson asked Walid about the 72 virgin thing, Walid corrected Pat that it was not simply 72 virgins but it would be 72 mansions with 72 bed(rooms) each and each room would have 72 virgins.  So the total number of dark-eyed virgins would be 373,248 and not simply 72.  It seems Allah has an eternal Pharmaceutical company in heaven manufacturing Viagra tablets non-stop for the muslim suicide bomber terrorists to have eternal erection!!!   I wonder what kind of a reward, a female muslim suicide bomber would get?

You comments please?

Thank you!

Chaim, I don't mean this to be offensive. But the last several years that I have listened to you, I have gotten the impression that you have a very misanthropic view of the world. It seems that most people you talk about you refer to as being evil and the "scum of the earth." I'm curious to know approximately what percentage of humankind you consider to be decent, what percentage you consider to be evil, and what percentage you have more of a neutral feeling towards?

Again, this is not meant to be offensive, it's just an honest impression that I've received and I apologize in advance if this has come as offensive.

Dear Chaim,
What do you think of S. Daniel Abraham?
What about Ronald Perelman of Revlon?
I read that Perelman calls himself a devout Jew, and brags about celebrating Shabbat every week. What a joke!

What do you think will happen to Abraham and Perelman in the next world? are the both destined for genehom?

Thanks,

Shalom Chaim, Two questions if I may.

1) What do you think of Robert Aumann, the Israeli Nobel Prize winner.  He is certainly a nationalist (he might even live in Judea or Samaria), Orthodox and extremely logical.  I know he is not a Kahanist, he favors concessions to the Arabs if they are returned by real concessions and states that neither Jews nor Arabs in Judea or Samaria should be forced from their homes.  I find him very interesting and his arguments very convincing.

2) I have a somber question.  If the Israelis keep offering to sacrifice the Jews and land of Judea and Samaria as they have been doing for over 20 years now, and we wake up one day and find the Arabs have taken them up on their offer (they can't be stupid forever) what should we do if we have tens (if not hundreds depending on what happens to the settlement blocs) of thousands of Jewish refugees and an Israel crammed into the Mediterranean Coast vulnerable to attack and having ripped the heart out of the best communities and people in the nation?  Would you still want to go to Israel?  Would you have the same love for it?  Would you hope that yet again we would gain Judea and Samaria?
We all need to pray for Barack Obama, may the Lord provide him a safe move back to Chicago in January 2,013.

I'm interested in your thoughts about the direction the Tea Party Movement is going in.     It seems that much like the Republican Party itself,    the Tea Party Movement is also heavily divided.        With various factions pulling in different directions.

Thanks as always,  eb22.

Dear Chaim,

What is the maximum amount of distance I may cross on Shabbat?  I am a 90 minute walk from the synagogues I attend [they are close together].
Is riding a bike prohibited on Shabbat?  Unlike a car it has no sparks/electronic.

Last week I asked about Zoroastrianism, and what the Rabbis have to say about it.  I do not study it with any thought of it being a religion for ME, for me it's Adonai or nothing.  I was wondering about what the Rabbis thought of Zoroastrianism in regards to Persians [are they heathens, or are they members of a "valid" religion like Christianity...  certainly they must be above Muslims].

A thought is, "Persians do not need Islam, they have a religion of their own; Zoroastrianism." - -Persians are a prideful people, and I have noticed they HATE being called Arabic... perhaps their egos could use a history lesson.  Persians in my area have symbol of Zoroaster they flaunt to show they are Persian, even if they are Muslim at the same time.  Get Iranians to dig up the pride they once had for THEIR religion instead of the Arabic virus of Islam... maybe THEN people will stop calling them Arabs...  otherwise they might as well be Arabs, for what the world sees [which is what I in no calm terms express to my Persian "friends"]. - Divide and conquer, no?
"You must keep the arab under your boot or he will be at your throat" -Unknown

"When we tell the Arab, ‘Come, I want to help you and see to your needs,’ he doesn’t look at us like gentlemen. He sees weakness and then the wolf shows what he can do.” - Maimonides

"The difference between a Jewish liberal and a Jewish conservative is that when a Jewish liberal walks out of the Holocaust Museum, he feels, "This shows why we need to have more tolerance and multiculturalism." The Jewish conservative feels, "We should have killed a lot more Nazis, and sooner."" - Philip Klein

Shalom Chaim and Thank you as always for your hard work and for answering my questions.

I know that you are grateful to the late Senator Jesse Helms for helping you get kosher food when you were in prison, but looking at Jesse Helms's record it appears he started out as a Ron Paul type conservative, and only became somewhat pro-Israel after getting Israel to go along with arm sales to so-called "moderate" Arab countries. Considering the information posted below, what is your opinion of Senator Helms?

According to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Helms#Foreign_affairs

Quote
Helms was not originally a supporter of Israel, proposing in 1973 a resolution demanding Israel return the West Bank to Jordan, and, in 1975, demanding that the Palestinian Arabs receive a "just settlement of their grievances".[55] In 1977, Helms was the sole senator to vote against prohibiting American companies from joining the Arab League boycott of Israel,[56] although this was primarily because the bill also relaxed discrimination against communist countries.[57] In 1982, Helms even called for the U.S. to break diplomatic relations with Israel during the 1982 Lebanon War.[58] He favored prohibiting foreign aid to countries that had recently detonated nuclear weapons: aimed squarely at India, but also affecting Israel should it conduct a nuclear test.[59] He then worked to support the supply of arms to the United States' Arab allies under Carter and Reagan, until his views on Israel shifted significantly in 1984.[55]

Helms positions on Israel changed in 1984 when he apparently almost lost re-election because of his anti-Israel stance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Helms#1984_re-election_campaign

Quote
Unlike in 1978, Helms faced an opponent in the primary, George Wimbish, but won with 90.6% of the vote, while Hunt received 77% in his.[33] During the general election campaign, Hunt accused Helms of having the most "anti-Israel record of any member of the U.S. Senate".[55] Helms pledged during the campaign that he would retain his chairmanship of the Agriculture committee.[202]

In the most expensive Senate campaign up to that time, Helms narrowly defeated Hunt, taking 1,156,768 (51.7%) to Hunt's 1,070,488 (47.8%).[33] Helms might not have won had it not been for Ronald Reagan's popularity in the state; Reagan carried North Carolina by 24 points that year.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Helms only changed his position on Israel when he got Israel to agree to go along with ARM SALES to "MODERATE" Arabs countries http://online.wsj.com/public/article_print/SB121521073192129407.html

Quote
Contrary to his reputation, Helms did change his mind. For his first decade in office he opposed aid to Israel and in 1982, after that nation invaded Lebanon, called for "shutting down" relations. But after learning more about Israel's security fears during a visit there in 1985, and receiving assurances that officials there could support some military sales to moderate Arab nations, he became Israel's stalwart ally."It was a complete switch," recalls Morris Amitay, former executive director of AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobby.

Even though I am a supporter of womens rights and an advocate against pornography, though I have concerns about the feminist movement.  I think the feminists movement has made women paranoid, scared and hateful of men.  Do you thinks it's true that women weren't so paranoid, ornery and hateful of men before all this?

Also could you share a story of you confronting feminists if you have any?

Shalom Chaim.

Semesters across colleges have opened and recently had my first experience with a leftist professor. This professor makes it his duty to bash sarah palin every week using the repeated line which is not an actual quote about Palin being able to see russia from her home and it being able to justify or qualify her as an expert of foreign affairs.(as if a mindless schvartza who said there were 57 states in the united states is qualified) In addition to that he has his head so far up obamas behind it's amazing he can breath. He continuously stands up for him and excuses his pathetic term by blaming the 8 years of the bush administration as opposed to obamas 1 year. What would your response be to this?
How can I put up with this? i've been tempted so many times to reply to his remarks in class but have second thoughts because it would be pointless and hurt my own grade. What would you do.

thanks again , John.

hey chaim. Before we start. Thankyou on showing me the light with sardines. I assumed that because tuna is not considered oily fish in the tin, then the rest of the fishes were also not considred omega 3 supplements. Then you said you had sardines out of a can. So i did some research,  and indeed sardines out of a can do count as oily fish portion. So thanks for this healthy snack tip.
