The head of a grassroots immigration reform organization says it's "ludicrous" that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano recently made a surprise visit to Afghanistan to advise Afghans about border security.

The Fox News Channel reports that Napolitano traveled to the war-torn country on New Year's Eve to visit with about two dozen U.S. officials stationed there, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, Customs and Border Protection officers, and Border Patrol agents. Fox reports that many of those agents are training Afghan security forces to manage their country's borders.

William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) -- while not questioning the need for border enforcement there -- believes Napolitano is the wrong person to be advising the Afghans.

"It's ludicrous that a woman who is failing across the board at enforcing America's existing immigration and border laws to be advising anybody about their border," he exclaims, "unless the Afghanistan government or people really want open borders where illegal immigrants and al-Qaeda and the Taliban can cross freely at will, then I think Janet Napolitano would be a good source on how to advise them to maintain that."

Gheen says it is absolutely wrong for the Department of Homeland Security to apply domestic security protocols and training to a radically different nation and culture.
