Israel Liquidates Hamas Weapons Smuggler in Sudan
« on: April 05, 2011, 08:02:54 PM »
This is interesting. I suspect this was Israel once again taking out strategic terrorist targets in the Sudan. This happened before and it may happen again. It seems that Sudan is a good place for terrorists to ship weapons for use against Israel...

(Reuters) - Two people were killed in an attack on a car near Port Sudan on Tuesday, which police suggested was a missile fired from the sea, while state media and a regional government official blamed a foreign aircraft.

Witnesses at the scene near the airport at Sudan's main port city said the small car was destroyed and the two charred bodies of its passengers could be seen.

"A missile from an unknown source probably bombed the car," police spokesman Ahmed Al-Tahmi told Reuters. He earlier told local radio the missile had likely been fired from the Red Sea.

The Sudanese Media Center, a news agency linked to Sudan's state security apparatus, and the speaker of the Red Sea state parliament, Ahmed Tahir, said an unidentified aircraft had flown into Sudanese air space to bomb the car.

The plane came in from the Red Sea and flew back after the bombing, Tahir said. The Sudanese Media Center said the army responded with missiles that the foreign plane managed to evade.

"We heard three loud explosions," a source at Port Sudan airport told Reuters. "We went outside to see what was happening and eye witnesses told us they saw two helicopters which looked liked Apaches flying past."

Tahir said the two people killed were traveling into the town from the airport when their car was hit. They have not been identified.

Sudan's foreign ministry declined to comment. Sudan's army was not immediately available to comment.

This is not the first time mystery has surrounded a strike in Sudan's eastern Red Sea state.

In January 2009, unknown aircraft hit a convoy of suspected arms smugglers on a remote road in the state according to Sudanese officials, a strike that some reports said may have been carried out by Israel to stop weapons bound for Gaza.

A total of 119 people were killed in that strike near Sudan's border with Egypt, according to state media, even though the attack was disclosed only two months after it occurred.

Sudan is on a U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, but Washington this year initiated the process to remove it from that list after a peaceful January referendum in which the country's south voted to secede.

'Israel assassinates Hamas weapons smuggler in Sudan'

Al-Arabiya reports 2 killed in strike were Sudanese national, the other was from an Arab country; some reports claim man was a senior Hamas operative.

Israel assassinated a senior Hamas weapons smuggler late Tuesday night when it bombed a rental car in Sudan, the Al Arabiya news station reported on Wednesday shedding some light on the mysterious late night air strike a day earlier.

The station did not identify the two men who were killed in the strike but said that one of them was a Sudanese national and that the other was from an Arab country. Some reports have claimed that he was a senior Hamas operative responsible for smuggling weapons from Iran, Syria and Lebanon to the Gaza Strip.

Two killed in Israeli air strike on Hamas compound in Gaza

Sudan is a known stop on the smuggling route from Iran to the Gaza Strip. In 2009, on the sidelines of Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip, Israel Air Force aircraft reportedly bombed a convoy of trucks carrying weaponry and traveling through the Sudanese desert on its way to the Gaza Strip.

Ships reportedly sail from the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, controlled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and dock at an Iranian-controlled port in Sudan. There, the weaponry is then unloaded onto the back of trucks which travel up into Egypt, through the Sinai Peninsula, eventually unloading their cargo along the border with the Gaza Strip.

According to the Sudanese, an aircraft approached Sudan from the Red Sea and bombed the rental car about 14 kilometers south of Port Sudan. The two men had reportedly just landed in Sudan an hour earlier.

Sudan's Foreign Minister Ali Karti on Wednesday accused Israel of carrying out an attack on Tuesday near Port Sudan that killed two people and said Khartoum reserved the right to react to the aggression.

"This is absolutely an Israeli attack," he told reporters.

He said Israel undertook the attack in order to scupper Sudan's chances of being removed from a US list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The Israeli government declined to comment.

Sudanese officials have offered different versions on how the strike was carried out. Police say a missile struck the car near the port city, but a state government official blamed the bombing on a foreign aircraft that flew in from the Red Sea.

Sudan is on a US list of state sponsors of terrorism, but Washington this year initiated the process to remove it from that list after a peaceful January referendum in which the country's south voted to secede.

Israel has been operating persistently against the Iranian smuggling mechanism since Operation Cast Lead. In November 2009, the Navy seized the Francop cargo ship which was transporting weaponry to Hezbollah in last month seized the Victoria which was shipping weaponry to Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

It would make me happy to see Israel back the black Sudanese and have them take revenge on the arabs.
The city isn't what it used to be. It all happened so fast. Everything went to crap. It's like... everyone's sense of morals just disappeared. Bad economy made things worse. Jobs started drying up, then the stores had to shut down. Then a black man was elected president. He was supposed to change things. He didn't. More and more people turned to crime and violence... The town becomes gripped with fear. Dark times, dark times... I am the hero this town needs. I am... The Coon!!!

Funny, Israel let's in sudanese refugees. In return, Sudan supplies Hamas with weapons to kill Jews, Gd forbid.
