If you want to reduce the fatality of school shootings, then place armed and trained guards in our schools!  With all the money our country blows on pathetic and useless programs for our schools, we decided not to invest anything in school security? 

Agreed, however try selling this to nervous parents and a liberal education system... The liberal media and education system over the past 20 or 30 years has brainwashed much of the younger generation into believing guns are evil... The mention of gun ownership around many young parents today has them rolling their eyes and shaking in their boots... This is what the gun lobby is up against.

This is actually not true..  For example, if one state decided to barricade Synagogues from operating in their state, it would be struck down as it was Unconstitutional by Federal regulations according to the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution.  No State law can counter those of the Constitution.  State are only allowed to enact laws and regulations that do not go against Federal regulations.

Just look at the case in Washington DC in the Supreme Court which struck down the illegal Handgun Ban that was enforced by District of Columbia:

You are arguing whether or not the Bill of Rights is incorporated to the states and there are arguments that can be made, both for and against. I believe that there was no incorporation intended by the framers of the Constitution. Of course, the Supreme Court has been unable to decide one way or another. Their decisions are usually very selective depending on the case they are hearing. Regarding states not being allowed to enact laws that go against federal regulations, Washington and Colorado just did that by legalizing marijuana. Let's see how that pans out.
