This is the kind of thing that happens when life is devalued

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/02/28/17137418-hoping-for-a-fresh-start-mother-abandons-child-in-woods

This "mother" decided that she wanted a fresh start, so abandoned her 8 month old child in the woods. She's going to get in a lot of trouble for it, and the baby was found and is going to be ok, but I don't think that she was insane. I think she was following the new moral norm, the same norm that led to Casey Anthony killing her daughter for the same reason.

Women are now taught that children are nothing but a burden, that pregnancy is a disease, etc.

In a society which condones abortion for unborn babies, euthanasia and assisted suicide of very ill adults, and even with some medical ethicists okay with infanticide (some children are allowed to die on a regular basis in hospitals, even against the family's wishes, look up Sun Hudson for example or Baby Doe), then these things are going to happen.

Society doesn't really consider infants or even young children to really be human.

Look at the following:
http://forums.hannity.com/showthread.php?2419581-British-Medical-Ethicists-Make-Case-For-Post-Natal-Abortion

"Two "medical ethicists" have written a paper for the Journal of Medical Ethics, published 23 February 2012.

Alberto Giubilini
Francesca Minerva

"There are two reasons which, taken together, justify this claim:

1.The moral status of an infant is equivalent to that of a fetus, that is, neither can be considered a ‘person’ in a morally relevant sense.
2.It is not possible to damage a newborn by preventing her from developing the potentiality to become a person in the morally relevant sense."

Some so-called medical ethicists like Peter Singer take it even further:
"Similar to his argument for abortion, Singer argues that newborns lack the essential characteristics of personhood—"rationality, autonomy, and self-consciousness"[26]—and therefore "killing a newborn baby is never equivalent to killing a person, that is, a being who wants to go on living."[27]"

When you have this kind of society then people doing things like that woman leaving her baby in the woods because she wants a "Fresh start" is going to become the logical conclusion. Would things like this occasionally happen in a good society that strongly valued life? Yes, but not as often. This kind of behavior is on the way to becoming the cultural norm rather than some kind of moral horror.

When people in the ancient world sacrificed their children to Molech, they did it for financial blessings from the demonic deity. They would place a small infant on scalding hot burning hands on an idol that was over a fire or place an infant inside a burning chamber inside the idol. The child would be screaming in pain but the parent would walk away as drums were being played to drown out the screams.

In today's world a common reason women have abortions is for financial gain, saying they can't afford a child, or to be able to advance their careers when their baby would get in the way of that.

Today's society has become very evil, just like the society of those ancient people.

I have seen pro-choicers equate having an abortion as a way of freeing a woman from slavery.

Apparently taking on the responsibilities of raising a child is a form of "slavery" to some feminists because it means you can't do what you want, when you want. You can't spend the kid's school supply money on ecstasy tablets, etc.

What a horrible society this has become.
