Chaim's answer about Abraham and sacrificing Issac
« on: July 23, 2007, 08:10:16 AM »
I think today's Israelis are being "tested"/"punished" like Abraham.  Because the Jews do not have hold of only 5% of biblical Israel and gave recognition of the other lands to the Arabs, now they have to sacrafice their children to the army...

(ok i know it's a long reach, what do you guys think?)

Apparantly, Israel has no choice but to do what she does to defend herself.
If someone says something bad about you, say something nice about them. That way, both of you would be lying.

It's not a long reach at all. I think you are completely correct.

but under that assumption, if ISrael were to have teh nile to the euphrates (Gd willing), they would no longer need to sacrifice her children to the army to protect the land from enemies and vicious beasts?  This is assuming the moshiach doesn't come yet.

I think I once read a commentary that said it was a common practice then to do a sacrifice.  But before the sacrifice was to take place, Abraham was then told to not do it?

So does it sort of mean that people shouldn't conform to corrupt behaviors of anarchists?  And that Israel shouldn't conform to the corrupt behavior of having a "Hooters" restaurant, having some Jews pose in Maxim and caring too much about the UN?

I don't see the connection... The torah doesn't specifically say that it was a common practice for a father to sacrifice his child..even if it really did happen at the time.. THe point of the chaim's commentary was the lesson of the story...I simply thought of a connection to today based on that same lesson.
