Ahavat Olam
« on: February 15, 2014, 02:25:07 PM »
I saved one prayer from the course which is this one. The Hebrew words on the website were backwards, when I copied and pasted it in word is was backwards so I corrected it, and then when I copied and pasted it here, it was again backwards. Word also mixed up the letters of at least 2 words which I corrected, which was undone again along with other things the next day. Eventually I ended up copy and pasting the original copy and past from the website which worked out fine. At least I was forced to 'read' a lot of Hebrew which is good practice.
One thing I noticed is that Adonai is used for G-d, but on this website it is written in the unspeakable form while in other places it is written as Hey Yud. For instance: Shma Yisrael   'Hey-Yud'(Adonai)   Elo(k)eynu   'Hey-Yud'(Adonai)   Echad.
Why do they write Hey Yud instead of Adonai or HaShem?

Ahavat Olam -

With an eternal love have You loved your people Israel
ahavat olam beyt Israel amcha ahavta
by teaching us the Torah and its commandments laws and precepts
Tora umitzvot chukim umishpatim otanu limadeta
Therefore Adonai our God
al ken Adonai eloheynu
we shall meditate on Your laws when we lie down and when we rise up
beshochvenu uvkumenu nasiach bechukecha
and we shall rejoice in the words of Your Torah
venismach bedivrey toratcha
and Your commandments for ever
uvemitzvotecha le-olam va-ed
For they are our life and the length of our days
ki hem chayeynu ve-orech yameynu
and we shall reflect upon them day and night
uvahem nehege yomam valayla
O may You never remove Your love from us
ve-ahavatcha al tasir mimenu le-olamim
Blessed are You Adonai Who loves your people Israel
baruch ata Adonai ohev amo Israel
