Why do blacks think slavery ended on "Juneteenth"?
« on: June 18, 2020, 11:02:47 PM »
The below is from Wikipedia. The blacks looted in Delaware. But they still think "Juneteenth" freed them. Don't they know the difference between Delaware and Texas? The Emancipation Proclamation was only for freeing slaves in Confederate states by the Union government. Delaware was a Northern state with slavery.

Winning re-election, Lincoln pressed the lame duck 38th Congress to pass the proposed amendment immediately rather than wait for the incoming 39th Congress to convene. In January 1865, Congress sent to the state legislatures for ratification what became the Thirteenth Amendment, banning slavery in all U.S. states and territories. The amendment was ratified by the legislatures of enough states by December 6, 1865, and proclaimed 12 days later. There were about 40,000 slaves in Kentucky and 1,000 in Delaware who were liberated then.

Maybe they would rather have a holiday in warm weather than in December. That way they can have a BBQ with all the things black like to eat together with watermelon.

Juneteenth is unique to the end of slavery in Texas, not whole country. It's regional. It reminds me of how people think Cinco de Mayo is the day the Mexicans beat the French. It was one regional battle but after that, the whole country became under French occupation. It's only a minor holiday in a region of Mexico. In the US people use it to celebrate Mexican heritage.

Because on June 19th, Texas was the last state to get the word that slavery is now banned in the US.

I know that. The answer is because they have an affirmative action level knowledge of History. Slavery ended everywhere only 6 month later when the 13th Amendment when into effect.
