I have something to confess
« on: September 17, 2022, 03:15:45 PM »
In some cases, for a person who repents for transgressions he committed publicly against other people, it is very praiseworthy to confess in public and to make his past sins known to others.

I learned that it is prohibited for a Gentile to do melaha on behalf of a Jew during the Sabbath. I regret doing so and I will no longer moderate JTF on Telegram on the Sabbath.
Gentiles are obligated to fulfill the Seven Noahide Commandments because they are the eternal command of God, transmitted through Moses our teacher in the Torah. The main and best book on details of Noahide observance is "The Divine Code" by Rabbi Moshe Weiner.

Are you the entire concept of a shabos goy is against halacha?

The specific details of my partnership with Chaim make it forbidden.

There are, however, two exceptions: (1) If the melaĥa that a Gentile does is primarily for his own benefit, but the act itself is done for a Jew. This applies in the following case: A Jew hired a Gentile to do a melaĥa, the wage has been agreed upon, the Gentile was not instructed that he must complete the job specifically on the Sabbath, the Jew has given him ample time to complete the job without any work needing to be done on the Sabbath, and the melaĥa is not done in the home, property, or store of the Jew. Under these conditions, the Gentile’s melaĥa that was done for a Jew on the Sabbath is permitted for a Jew to benefit from. This is because the Gentile did it for the sake of his livelihood, and the Jew did not cause him to perform it on the Sabbath, so it follows that the Gentile is choosing of his own volition to do the melaĥa on that day, and it is for his own benefit (so that he will be paid).

In contrast, it is forbidden for a Jew to cause a Gentile to do melaĥa during the Sabbath under any of the following circumstances (and if this prohibition was violated, a Jew is forbidden to benefit from the melaĥa that was done in these cases): (a) The melaĥa is performed by a Gentile in the Jew’s home; (b) The melaĥa is performed by a Gentile on the Jew’s property; (c) The Gentile is hired by a Jew only for the day of the Sabbath; (d) The Gentile will be paid by a Jew for each day that he does the melaĥa (and one of the days is the Sabbath); (e) A Jew allotted a certain time in which the melaĥa must be performed by the Gentile that he hired, and it is impossible to meet the deadline if it is not done during the Sabbath; (f) The Gentile’s wage has not yet been set, and he does not know if or how much he will be paid.

(2) A Jew is permitted to request or instruct a Gentile do melaha on the Sabbath for the personal needs of a sick Jew who is in great pain, even if the situation is not life threatening (the Divine Code by Rabbi Weiner, 4th Edition, p 700-701).
