Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, announced his endorsement of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for president Thursday.

“I believe that now is the time for Republicans and conservatives to unite behind the candidate who can not only win in November, but who will govern according to the principles we advocate and share,” Hensarling said in a statement.

“We are down to two candidates who can secure the Republican nomination – Donald Trump and Ted Cruz,” Hensarling said. “Based on Donald Trump’s track record, I have serious questions about his commitment to the conservative cause.”

Hensarling is the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, and represents a Dallas-area congressional district.

Hensarling’s endorsement comes on the same day as news broke that Sen. Lindsey Graham is planning a fundraiser for Cruz.

Cruz has continually built his support within Texas, especially after the exit of former Texas Gov. Rick Perry from the race.

Cruz has also been endorsed by current Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, and has won his state’s primary.

Cruz is the only candidate who can still mathematically win a majority of Republican delegates other than Donald Trump, and has begun to see establishment support trickle his way as the most plausible anti-Trump candidate, despite frosty relationships with many of his colleagues in Washington.
