Trump Adviser: Take Trump ‘Symbolically,’ Not ‘Literally’

That means not to believe anything Trump says… from his own adviser.

President-elect Donald Trump’s comments should be taken “symbolically,” not “literally,” Trump adviser Anthony Scaramucci said Tuesday.

MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle asked when Trump was going to hold a press conference he had promised regarding his business interests and other topics.

“He’s a very precise, very detail-oriented guy, and I think he wants to make that press conference happen when he has all the answers to all the questions that he’ll get thrown at him,” said Scaramucci, a member of Trump’s transition team’s executive committee.

“If he’s a detail-oriented guy, then how does this statement that we’ve been hearing for months — don’t take him literally, take him seriously — make sense?” Ruhle replied. “Because that’s sort of the opposite.”

“No, no, no, no, don’t take him literally, take him symbolically. See, it’s different,” Scaramucci said.

Trump’s supporters know the way he speaks is more symbolic, Scaramucci continued, and “you should definitely take him seriously, because he’s a man of his word, but I do think that some of the things that happen with the media is when he’s sending out tweets or he’s speaking in a certain way that sets the hair on fire of the nation’s media — particularly the left-leaning media.

“I think his supporters see that more as symbolism and a rejection of, sort of, that egg and tomato-throwing that he’s experienced from June of 2015 when he announced his campaign.”

The media might be critical of Trump because he releases information and does not follow up, Ruhle shot back and “part of that could be because he puts himself in the position where he gets to put all this information out there and doesn’t have to answer any questions.”

The president-elect should get credit for putting off a press conference until he is ready, Scaramucci said. “That’s why he delayed it, which I think it’s a sign of his great temperament and very good judgment.”
