My plan for a better rail system in the US
« on: October 18, 2007, 09:46:16 PM »
1. Have the federal government stop giving tax money to railroads and instead take over the rail infrastructure like the interstate is run. This will enable new railroad companies to start new businesses and compete with each other.
2. Abolish the FRA and all the stupid policies that they establish. Instead require railroads to acquire sufficient insurance policies. The insurance companies and railroads will do the best job at insuring safety when their profit lines depend on it.
3. Require local utility companies to electrify all rail infrastructure. They are given a monopoly under the condition that they have to serve all customers no matter how inconvenient it is.
Does it bother you that you have to face the dome and the rock to say the sh'ma?
