Newman, I was not trying to pit Judaic and Christian theology against one another. Christians don't despise the Talmud/oral Torah. We say that it is brilliant rabbinic commentary, but not necessarily divinely inspired. Some Jews also say that.
No Religious Jews say that.

One does not deal with terrorists; one does not bargain with terrorists; one kills terrorists.

Chaim said on an old Ask JTF that the Oral Torah is considered inspired, but not quite as literally as Written Torah.

He was referring to Rabbinical rulings/fences, not the Oral Law itself.

I'd have to ask him again. If I misunderstood I am sorry.

In any way, it is irrelevant. The point I was trying to make is that Christians don't dismiss the Oral Torah.

The actual conversation and debate recorded in the Talmud is not Divine, obviously.  But the actual "Torah" in there is just as divine (as the written).

That's completely illogical, CF.

If they accepted Oral Law they wouldn't/couldn't be christian.

Name ONE church that accepts the Oral Law as Law.

I think I am one of the rare exceptions, that I was born in a culture where women are not seen as being less than a man, and women learn from an early age to be an individual and do what you want to do with your life.

If you want kids, or career or both, its totally expectable.

New Zealand was the first country to give women the vote, and see that women are human beings as much as any man.

Freedom is something that is a right not a privilege.

I could never see how any woman, can live under rules of being sub human. And I think many modern women are now seeing their own self worth. And so they should.

This sounds like something straight out of the Feminist Manifesto.

Doesn't New Zealand have the world's highest suicide rate?

Newman, you yourself are not "accepting" Oral Law if you believe in any kind of contraception.

However, what I meant is that Christians would view the OL the same way we would the writings of any good modern theologian--potentially brilliant and wonderful, but not necessarily divine word.

Oral Law applies only to Jews.

The Oral Law stipulates that the Laws that govern gentiles are the 7 Laws of Noach. Nowhere in the 7 Laws is contraception for gentiles prohibited.

The mere fact that christians suppose the Ten Commandments of the Jews apply to them means they reject the Oral Law.

The Ten Commandments apply to all mankind.

Nobody was saved without being a Jew.

Wrong on both counts.

The 613 mitzvot of the Jews are contained in the 10 commandments and apply ONLY to Jews.

Judaism has always held that NO gentile need become Jewish to be saved.

Ask Lubab (or any orthodox Rabbi) if you don't believe me.

I should be but its not, its straight out of the idea we are human beings, not mullahs animals.

I'm not an expert on that. I have always been told differently. What about yourself? Are you a rabbi?

Newzealand is high on the list.

Anyhow, suicide is part of Japan's history.  New Zealand has no excuse.

No.

But like any sensible person I listen to the Rabbis on matters of religion and not TV preachers. Just as I get advice from MDs on medical matters and not witch doctors.

Who told you different? An orthodox Rabbi? I doubt it.
