The indictment, handed down by the police department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, specified the officer in question, Yoav Shapiro, leapt at a teenage demonstrator running by the roadside and proceeded to beat him and punch him in the stomach repeatedly, without cause. Later that day, Shapiro allegedly assaulted a young female demonstrator while she was escorted to a squad car by four fellow officers. He repeatedly beat the girl on the head, while she was restrained and unable to resist or defend herself. Shapiro also allegedly assaulted a third demonstrator during this protest march, needlessly kicking him in the stomach as he was restrained by IDF soldiers and security personnel. The internal affairs investigation into this case was launched by a Yesha human rights organization which file a complaint following this incidents. Advertisement The Judea and Samaria Police noted that “The police officer in question served as part of a Central Control Unit in our district at the time of the demonstration. He transferred to the Ma’ale Edumim station roughly a year ago, and has recently retired from active duty.”
