An acquaintence of mine converting to Judaism from Islam

When her parents found out they went nuts and threatened to disown her. I think she might be fully converted to Judaism, but she hides her faith from her parents while they are pay her tuition for school.  She asked me which was more important: family or faith?

My answer to her was:

1. Simply in life you need to be a decent human being to strangers and do the right moral thing even if it is unpopular. Don't act morally so that you'll get into Heaven. Act morally becuase it is simply the right and decent thing to do in life.

2. Your physical life is the most important thing to protect.  If your life is in physical danger and your parents are threatening to harm you or even kill you, then conceal your faith from them.


Do you guys think i said the right thing?

Converting is not a small task.

If she feels deep in herself
she has to do it, well,
let her do it.

She has just to be genuine with herself.

And SINCE it is a muSSlim converting to Judaïsm,
it can ONLY be good, for us all.

"Fleeing" from a "faith"
that pushes PARENTS TO KILL
THEIR OWN CHILDREN is HUMAN.

Differcult to say. But I see it this way, she lies to obtain money from her parents, and hides her faith.

She is selling her soul in one way. She needs to be open about her beliefs and remove herself from her parents reach.

Being this half way thing is not good. And not true.

She might not say anything out of safety. Honor killings might not happen as often in the west but she can still get hurt. It might just be to protect herself.

We all have risks inlife, and she needs to choose her own path. I don't believe her only choice is to remain there.

If she is an adult she can leave.

If a child like Sarah that is different.

Because she is a female makes no difference on the ability to remove herself from danger.

I might have mentioned it to her, but not sure if she has had the time or desire to join us. Her parents did find out that she was converting and they gave her the hardest time threatening to not pay for her tuition etc and alienating her.  So she is stuck between staying with her family and hiding her faith..or the other way around.

According to Halacha her acceptance of HaShem and His Laws is considered to be of her being "born again" and her old Muslim family are not "family" in the Halachic sense as she has now entered into a new relationship with HaShem and her new Jewish family. 

I believe this is the Halachic ruling placed forward through the Talmud and applies to similar cases....   In todays morally bankrupt and ball-less world of Jihad, lies and deceit I can totally understand her position.  You know, if your friend is truly converted/ing to Judaism I know that Rabbi Tovia Singer would love to interview her on Israel National Radio.  My cousin married a "Lebanese" Arab who converted and wanted to interview her...  She could always use an alias for the interview.  I'm sure it would be very interesting to her her views openly and honestly...  As not many Muslims convert to Judaism...

As far as I know, it was with chabad...or it's being done with chabad...i'm not sure if she has completely converted.

I was actually surprised at first before I read this, I imagined right away arab, but now that I read Persian im not suprised. I was surprised by assuming arab because arabs (the children of Ismael) dont have the merit to convert, maybe very very very few. Esav- does have some merits- that why we see many Europeans converted throughout the ages, even whole communities, and individuals, but not with the Arabs.

No problems brother.  If I make a mistake or am wrong in any way, I'm very forth-coming in admitting thus... ;)  Arrogance and pride are the basis of evilness imo...  How can one learn if one is always right?   ;)
