Where has religion gone?
« on: February 20, 2008, 06:04:02 AM »
Recently I started teaching religious instruction to a group of 8 year old Catholic children.
It has come to my attention that not many children participate in their religion outside of coming to this one hour class just once a week.
Many have never attended Mass on Sunday.
I know for a fact that most participate on sport teams, take dance or have organized playdates - several times a week.
Parents today seem overly concerned with the outside of their children - are they in style, have the right haircut and are they carrying the right gadgets.
The inside/core of their child all but forgotten.
I can be guilty of the same at times.
I would like to hear if people think this lack of formal religious practice has an impact on the morality crisis we seem to be suffering under here in the US and abroad.

Idiot, liberal parents today regard Judaic/christian religion as 'hate speach' because it forbids evil behaviour. They're worried it will make the kids 'intollerant'.

"If we continue to teach about tolerance and intolerance instead of good and evil, we will end up with tolerance of evil." - Dennis Prager

It is a very sad situation.
I have come to hate the word tolerance.
Who said that we must tolerate all kinds of behavior even if it is evil?

I agree we should be teaching children right from wrong.

I put down the PC text book and read to the class from the Bible.
They loved it.

A buddy of mine who is a recently-kicked-off-the-air-for-being-too-right-wing broadcaster who has two masters degrees and is a professional educator once said.............. "Give me The Bible, the Greek Classics and every episode of Little House On The Prairie on DVD and I'll give your children all the education they'll ever need".

We are working on the Bible.
I'll have to invest in the Little House DVDs.  I loved that show.
The Greek Classics she'll have to get through on her own  ;)

He told the truth so the radio station canned him. Gutless swines.

He believed that with proper basics in common sence, logic and human morallity, students would have the proper mindset to then study the sciences and other things.

To tolerate is to encourage. To tolerate is to deem something normal and be part of its progression. Just like how homosexuality has become public in society through PC tolerance.

Your doing fine Sarah. You have a long road ahead of you and as fast as you get one issue sorted out another will be there to take its place. Its part of life.
