The Park Bench
« on: February 25, 2008, 06:16:40 PM »
The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read Beneath the long, straggly branches of an old willow tree. Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown, For the world was intent on dragging me down.

And if that weren't enough to ruin my day, A young boy out of breath approached me, all tired from play. He stood right before me with his head tilted down And said with great excitement, "Look what I found!"

In his hand was a flower, and what a pitiful sight, With its petals all worn - not enough rain, or too little light. Wanting him to take his dead flower and go off to play, I faked a small smile and then shifted away.

But instead of retreating he sat next to my side And placed the flower to his nose And declared with overacted surprise, "It sure smells pretty and it's beautiful, too. That's why I picked it; here, it's for you." The weed before me was dying or dead. Not vibrant of colors: orange, yellow or red.

But I knew I must take it, or he might never leave. So I reached for the flower, and replied, "Just what I need." But instead of him placing the flower in my hand, He held it mid-air without reason or plan.

It was then that I noticed for the very first time That weed-toting boy could not see: he was blind.

I heard my voice quiver; tears shone in the sun As I thanked him for picking the very best one. You're welcome," he smiled, and then ran off to play, Unaware of the impact he'd had on my day.

I sat there and wondered how he managed to see A self-pitying person beneath an old willow tree. How did he know of my self-indulged plight? Perhaps from his heart, he'd been blessed with true sight.

Through the eyes of a blind child, at last I could see The problem was not with the world; the problem was me. And for all of those times I myself had been blind, I vowed to see the beauty in life, And appreciate every second that's mine.

And then I held that wilted flower up to my nose And breathed in the fragrance of a beautiful rose And smiled as I watched that young boy, Another weed in his hand, About to change the life of an unsuspecting old man.

A nurse escorted a tired, anxious young man to the bed side of an elderly man. "Your son is here," she whispered to the patient. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened. He was heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack and he dimly saw the young man standing outside the oxygen tent.

He reached out his hand and the young man tightly wrapped his fingers around it, squeezing a message of encouragement. The nurse brought a chair next to the bedside. All through the night the young man sat holding the old mans hand, and offering gentle words of hope.

The dying man said nothing as he held tightly to his son. As dawn approached, the patient died. The young man placed on the bed the lifeless hand he had been holding, and then he went to notify the nurse.

While the nurse did what was necessary, the young man waited. When she had finished her task, the nurse began to say words of sympathy to the young man.

But he interrupted her. "Who was that man?" He asked.

The startled nurse replied, "I thought he was your father."

"No, he was not my father," he answered. "I never saw him before in my life."

"Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?" asked the nurse.

He replied, "I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here. When I realized he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, I knew how much he needed me..."

No. I just think they're beautiful short stories that we can all extract our own meaning from. There are always a few disagreements on this forum, which is expected, though sometimes we should judge our own faults before quickly pin pointing those of others.

Yes but I don't care because i believe what is said about Islam on JTF isn't the absolute truth. Though i like a lot of the JTF policies and stances on immigration, politics and it's dealings with controversial issues.

Honestly, when I remember Muslims controlling Har Habayt and preventing Jewish worship, while they freely perofrm their service in Saudi Arabia, I get furious. Sometimes I even feel like nuking Mecca. I have heard no Muslim leader ruling Jerusalem must be left in peace (up till now). But regarding Koran verses calling to kill infidels, I believe they are no longer really believed by many Muslims. Even if they believe it to be divine words, they interpret them as reffering to the past. Those who use these words are terrorist leaders who would use anything else, if they had no Koran.
BTW, regarding holy places, to Jews here, honestly, if you had all the power in Israel. Would you permit Samaritans free worship at Guerizim? And what about Karaite synagogues?

Last year we convinced her to leave Islam and she became a Noahide but she went back to Islam recently unfortunately. But I don't believe she is a real Muslim because real Muslims want to kill all Non-Muslims so a Muslim wouldn't say the things she says on this forum unless they were practicing taqiyya.
As long as she is following Sheva Mitzvos Bnei Noach, I could really care less what she is...

If she was a real Muslim, she would not be following The Noahide Laws because The Noahide Laws prohibit murder, a crime which is required by The Koran.

I totally disagree with your statement. Firstly the Koran verses are so messed that it's imposible to say what it wants to say. One verse praises G-d for having created good things for men, including wine!!!!! Another tells Muslims not to say a prayer while being drunk. And another one forbids alcohol!!!!
Muslims say that in those cases, the verse written last is the one which counts, but chapters don't follow a crhonogical order.
Anyway, even if the Koran clearly required to do murder, if you believe that Islam is a fake religion, then you cannot say that whoever doesn't obey the Koran is not real a Muslim. If you don't believe Muhhamad is a real prophet, then what is the difference between strictly following him, or just following the ideas of a peacefull imam? (The problem is that while I have heard some Imams condemning violence, I have still not heard any of them recognising Jerusalem as Jewish!!!!!)

And noone answered my question:

BTW, regarding holy places, to Jews here, honestly, if you had all the power in Israel. Would you permit Samaritans free worship at Guerizim? And what about Karaite synagogues?

Raul, the Quran is not the only souce of Muslime believe.

Quran is explained by the Sunna. The sunna has two contents: Hadith and Sira (Biography of the so called prophet)

The Hadith is very clear. It commands the Muslimes to agree with everything Mohammed did and to justify it.

I suggest you to read the Sira of Ibn Ishaq. Mohammed commanded to kill so called kufar (us)

You have to see the whole picture.

Yes, they have the Sunna, just as Christians Churches have their traditions. Catholics are also commanded to obey the Pope, for instance. And many Christians are/were commanded to hate or even attack non Christians. What about the Crusades? They killed Jewish men women and children. On the other hand Muslim invaders in Spain allowed Jewish Synagogues.
However I'll not trust todays's Islam untill at least some of them, rule that Jews must be left alone in Eretz Yisrael including Jerusalem.

And this question seems to be completely ignored.........

28. "If thou dost stretch thy hand against me, to slay me, it is not for me to stretch my hand against thee to slay thee: for I do fear Allah, the cherisher of the worlds.

29. "For me, I intend to let thee draw on thyself my sin as well as thine, for thou wilt be among the companions of the fire, and that is the reward of those who do wrong."

30. The (selfish) soul of the other led him to the murder of his brother: he murdered him, and became (himself) one of the lost ones.

31. Then Allah sent a raven, who scratched the ground, to show him how to hide the shame of his brother. "Woe is me!" said he; "Was I not even able to be as this raven, and to hide the shame of my brother?" then he became full of regrets-

32. On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land.

33. The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter;

34. Except for those who repent before they fall into your power: in that case, know that Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful

I have just taken a bit out so it doesn't start from the beginning of the story.

---------------------------------

Apart from that, Yacov what do you think of those stories?

Raul, Sunna is not tradition. The Hadith is more like the Jewish oral law. It is definitively a part of Muslime epiphany.

There were over centuries discussions, if war is permitted for Christians. Even today are there different points of view.

Please give me a quote from the New Testament, in order to proof you thesis:

"And many Christians are/were commanded to hate or even attack non Christians."

There is no concept of a Christian state in the bible, only some rules for the life in the ecclesia. Nowhere in the New Testament is written to hate non-Christians.

Why do you want to respect specially the JEWISH people. And if you really want to learn about the Jews, I advice you to read Jewish articles from several sources. Do you go to other Jewish sites? No Jewish site or organization reprsents the view of the whole Jewish People.

I respect most religions but with religions such as Christianity, it is easier to understand since I live in the U.K and there are many christians that I talk too.....my mum tells me some stuff about it too. However I have never spoken to any Jews just about Judaism, the Jews I do know are mostly secular or just not interested. I can read but it's not the same as discussing topics. Though JTF does represent the religion of Judaism, maybe not all the views.

It's other things too, anyway who cares. :)

Golden, I don't have the NT here, but I remember many quotes. Jesus is reported to have said "Those who are not for me, are against me", Some other writing says "....and they are enemies of Mankind and G-d, especially those of the circumcision". "Anyone who doesn't love Jesus be Cherem (in that case means cursed)" It's obvious that if a Christian is bound to believe in the whole NT as words of G-d, and Jews are "enemies of Humanity", he must at least hate them. Wouldn't you hate an enemy of all Humanity???????
But I am still waiting that some would abswer my question:

regarding holy places, to Jews here, honestly, if you had all the power in Israel. Would you permit Samaritans free worship at Guerizim? And what about Karaite synagogues?
What's the problem with that question? It seems nobody dares to even speak about it.........

I am pretty familiar with NT and have never come across anything like that.  Jesus was Jewish and circumcised!  There was no Christianity until long after his death.

Raul, the opposite is true.

It is written, that Jesus said:

Lukas 9,49 -50
49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

According to the copies of the Gospel available now, he did in fact say very bad things of the Jews. But we must remember that the Gospels were written in Greek and Jesus spoke Hebrew or Aramaic. There is always a possiblity of mistranslation due to language or culture.

Raul, apart from this dispute, I say it clearly:

I am a Christian and I am neither hating people of other believes, nor would fight them, but I have three exceptions of this general rule: Nazis, Red Rats and Muzzies. This is not based on my religion, but I have good reasons for it, namely: freedom to practice my religion, economic freedom and personal freedom.

In addition to that I would never try to convert Jews, because I believe that there is no need for.

If they come to me, perhaps I would tell them torahanytime.com or devineinformation.com.  ;D
