Any other parents here?
« on: February 28, 2008, 02:15:04 AM »
I'm getting more and more sickened at what my 1rst grade son is learning from his teacher at public school.  He's already come home from school saying he wants Obama to be president, and he can already identify someone as being 'African American' ; And I havent discussed either of these topics with him.

Unfortunately private school is too expensive in my area.. and home schooling isnt an option as my wife works.  How am I supposed to shield him from this type of propaganda?

Wow that is sad Brian. I don't know if private school would be better cause says who you won't get some retarded liberal teacher there? I think your only hope is to move to a part of the country where lots of bible believing christians reside(if you are not jewish) or to move to israel if you are jewish.
I am urinating on a Koran.

I wish I could relocate, but my wife and I have a lot of family here in So. Cali.  I just want to shield him some how from this.

Why would he even mention anything about election to a first grade kids?? i say you should make a meeting with teacher and confront him and ask him why is he talking to first grade kids about election which has nothing to do with 1st grade material..

No problem with learning what is African American heritage. But I thought American schools were democratic and didn't do political indoctrination..... it seems the situation is worse than I thought. Here in Argentina, no teacher would do political propagabda at school.

The only way is to talk with him about those two topics.

I feel for you al ot. Yes I have three kids I had been lucky they have had a great education.

Sometimes their subjects I didn't agree on. But I make sure they had a informed education. Thats all you can do.

Just allow them to have access to the other point of view.

No, the public schools are a cespool of political indoctrination.  I was working at a public high school a few years back, and on the last day of school, they promised the kids they would get to watch 'shrek' in their assembly room, and when that day came, they claimed to have lost the Shrek video, and showed Fahrenheit 911 instead.

I know kids have to learn about cultures, which I am all for, but teaching kids racial categories at 6 years old is absurd.  Imagine if they taught kindergarteners  how to physically recognize a 'white' person.  Its just not age appropriate.

Raul - I feel like banging my head against the wall when you start talking about African culture. I'd love to stick you in Crown Heights for a while and see how long it takes before you RUN back to Buenos Aires..

Brian, I'm sorry to hear about what's happening to your son. I know I'm not a parent, but one day I will be.. and the first thing that I would do if I was in your situation is storm in that school and scream at the principle and the teacher for indoctrinating my child, and make sure everyone else in the area hears about it. What they're doing is illegal, threaten them with local newspapers..

Hey Vito.  I actually already did, with another parent, about an unrelated issue, and the teacher refused to listen to us, and rudely and abruptly ran out during our parent/teacher conference, so I complained to the principal, and nothing has been done since.

Tenured teachers and administrators in public school live in a parallel universe where they are completely untouchable.  It is impossible to fire them.  All the principals can do is say, dont do it again!!, and at worst, 'write them up' which is meaningless too.  I knew one Vice Principal (A black one) who would never show up on time, would always SLEEP in his corner office, would use derogatory terms against whites, AND I found porno on his school computer, and reported it. I led a campaign to fire him, tracking everything he did, and it was useless.  No adminsitrator would dare stand up against this guy, and the Union had already blocked a previous attempt to fire him.  Thankfully, he finally retired (but our taxes are now paying his absurdly large $65,000/yr pension.

So basically, Im just focusing on making sure my son doesn't become one of them.  (I still havent taken him to a gunshow yet though :( )

There are GOOD teachers (Myself and my wife included :) ) but the bad ones are untouchable.

I have to agree with you Raul. It's problematic that they're even involving 1st graders (IN SCHOOL) with the election. It's not like they're in 8th grade where U.S. history is taught and then the election could be talked about. But in 1st grade? That does sound like propaganda.

Briann, are your son's teachers black? You can actually take them to court for not teaching them lessons not based on curriculum.

I have to also say that I don't think that it's wrong for a 1st grader to call blacks African American. After all , that's who they are.

Unfortunately elementary school is where the indoctrination begins, along with early childhood tv programming. If I were you I would limit his tv watching and make sure that he gets a steady diet of the right ideas. You have to combat this aggressively or he will be brainwashed.

Don't be too harsh about it though or you can send him in the opposite direction of what you want, of course, but make sure that you calmly teach him the correct and moral things.

No, my son's teacher is white, and very young, and very partisan.  (Lets not forget how many whites support Obama)  And she is not an exception at all.  There are dozens more just like her.  Also, you don't understand, the lawyers that would fight on her behalf have unbeleivably deep pockets.  She's represented by the UTLA (United teachers of Los Angeles) which outspent Arnold 3 to 1 (Approaching 200 million dollars) in order to campaign against his special election to break the power of the unions.  If I try to take her to court, they WILL win.

Gee errr ummm. I am a white person, and theres nothing wrong with calling ME 'white' either... HOWEVER, there IS something wrong with teaching students racial classifications at such an early age.  I don't think this is appropriate for 6 year olds.

Think about it... how exactly would she teach this to them???   Maybe she can have my son stand up in front of the class.. and say... now kids.. notice the narrow nose ridge, and the hair color is not black... therefore he is classified as a 'white'.  But I guess theres nothing wrong with that.. since he is 'white' (Well... part-white)

But you just said "all black neighborhoods are ghetto" (parphrasing). How would you know if you've never seen all of them? I thought the same way (because I was raised in the ghetto), until I saw affluent black communities.

Erica.  My son goes to a diverse school, and in his class there are Indian kids who have darker skin than the black student.  When he physcially describes one of his students who I'm not aware of, he DOES use physical traits hair/skin/eye color along with height/hair length/texture etc but does not say... Bobby is white... Jimmy is S. Asian. etc.

I do not want my teacher to discuss the categories of what make people a racial category at his age.  its THAT simple.  I dont want Mrs. Liberal to say, Raja is NOT black because even though his skin is dark, his hair is straight, and his nose isnt flat, etc etc.  THIS IS ABSURD!!
How can you not see that this is WRONG for first graders??????  My god.. the world is going CRAZY!!

Brian

No problem with learning what is African American heritage. But I thought American schools were democratic and didn't do political indoctrination..... it seems the situation is worse than I thought. Here in Argentina, no teacher would do political propagabda at school.

But I guess theres nothing wrong with that.. since he is 'white' (Well... part-white)

Brian
What would you rather your son call black people? What have you told him of blacks' skin color?

First of all, I just asked an innocent question. I didn't go into you being wrong about anything. Second, I raised my daughters the same way, briann. Instead of calling their friends black or white they'd use colors or even flavors to describe them. When we colored together my daughters would either use peach/ flesh colored crayons to color the child with white people's hair or use the brown crayon to color the child with an afro hairstyle. That's how they learn. It wasn't until recently that a couple of my daughters started using "black" to describe someone. In fact, my almost 17 year old calls white people, 'light skinned".

I actually had a 1st grade teacher who taught at our all black school who couldn't stop referring to black kids as 'that stupid black girl/boy'. That is what creates racism early in young children's lives.
