(IsraelNN.com) Sixty-five people showed for tryouts for the new Israel Baseball League, featuring six teams. Dan Duquette is trying to popularize the American Pastime to the Holy Land, which sports one full-size diamond. The league hopes to open the season on June 24 with the following teams: Bet Shemesh Blue Sox, Netanya Tigers, Petach Tikva Pioneers, Jerusalem/Gezer Lions, Haifa/Nahariya Stingrays and Tel Aviv Lightning.
Martin Berger,a Miami lawyer who is operations director of the league, is optimistic. "This is what Israelis need. Israelis need family time, time away from the stress," he said.
