Israelis to go vertical take-off
« on: May 22, 2008, 11:07:26 AM »
Rather than wait until 2012 for delivery of the F35, and the inevitable rain of Iranian, Hizbollah, Syrian and even Egyptian missiles on their three well zeroed-in easily disabable airfields, the Israelis should already buy now half a squadron of second-hand Harriers from the US Marines, Spaniards or Indians, as an emergency precaution, so that they've at least got some kind of immediate emergency vertical take-off nuclear retaliation capability.

It's not very fast and is pretty short range

The Harrier's invaluable ability to take off vertically from an unprepared clearing, and ability to lug a 200kT nuclear bomb 1400 miles at 675mph is a tremendous deterrent that Israel should have had already years ago, should its 3 airbases, its one at a time at sea Dolphin submarines and its Bet Shemesh Jericho II missile silo all be simultaneously taken out, which is not implausible!

Israel is not going to by the VSTOL version of the F-35, It will opt the regular TOL which has better combat performances.

The idea of purchasing Harriers just to keep another nuclear delivery platform is completely wrong, it would be far better and cheaper to use mobile launchers of ballistic and cruise missiles for that purpose.

BTW the AV-8b (Harrier 2) is basically obsolete. It is only used by the Marines and Royal Navy for lack of better options.

According to the report, some of the F35s will be the vertical take off version.

With enemies like we have, one can never have too many nuclear delivery systems.

Already years ago the Harrier's performance was passe, but the USMC still said "all we want is more Harriers!" because of its unique ability.

With the Syrians in Moscow now ordering scores more point-accurate Scarabs and Iskanders

it would not take many to take Israel's airbases out of commission.

As the Arabs have shown repeatedly, they are not afraid to preemptively attack a nuclear-armed Israel: they actually want to die, so let's have all the diverse platforms we can so as to be able to oblige them.

As Rav Kahane said: "One thing I can assure you when I am prime minister: if we are attacked, I will be the first to press the button!".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAE_Sea_Harrier

Sea Harrier was excellent but its real potentials could never be fully recognized and utilized. Now Sea Harrier has become almost obsolete everywhere in most aspects. F-35 is going to be late when most crucial matters are to be decided in one or two years.

So till then better to rely upon existing resources and hone them, polish them and sharpen them with intellect.

After LOL... I can say that Israel are next to none in the world of avionics and they should maintain and improve it to safeguard against Arab/Iranian first strike.

Unfortunately Israel's technical prowess & "avionics" counted for next to nothing against primitive Katyushas and Fajrs in 2006, & now against even more primitive Qassams in Gaza.

Only judicious use of the Neutron bomb, or sending in the gentile Druze Cherev Batallion will do the job (the Druzim are allowed their own bayonets - Jewish Israeli soldiers are not issued or allowed bayonets! Zahal's Jewish soldiers make reasonable shooters, but are not too good in close-quarter combat - they don't like cold steel!).

My fool proof(I think) plan to secure Israel's security:

Convert most energy to solar power.
Make advanced missile defense/air defense systems.
Make the bases unreachable for miles and miles.

They can't take out the power. They can't just fire missiles. They would have to attack on the ground or on the sea.

And we know who has superiority there  ^-^

Now that the Brits are dumping all their Harriers on to the US http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/nov/15/harrier-jump-jets-britain-us if the Israelis were serious about deterrence, they should buy just 4 from the Americans, and have them permanently stashed in a wadi, each carrying a single 20kT warhead for a verticle take-off one way revenge mission should Israel's runways and airbases be rendered useless by missiles in the next war.

Being that the IDF is the only army in the world NOT to issue its troops with bayonets, putting some cold steel in Muslim guts is going to be a tad difficult!

3 reasons:

1. "It's not Jewish stab someone with a bayonet: it's cruel!"

2. "Bayonets cost gelt!"

3. "A bayonet is just a piece of unnecessary kit!"
