Billionaire George Soros, funder of elite causes and critic of most things conservative, has been linked by a blogger to former White House press secretary Scott McClellan's hate-Bush book, called "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception."
Writers at the Little Green Footballs blog have reported that the company that published McClellan's spill-all book is PublicAffairs Books, which in turn is owned by Perseus Book Group.
"The firm is owned by Perseus Funds Group (holding company Perseus LLC), a capital management firm that grew from about $20 million in 1995 to over $2 billion now," the report said.
"The board has tons of liberals from the Clinton and Carter administrations, with far-left credentials…," the report said. Then, the report says, if you go to the New York Department of State website and hunt for "Perseus" what comes up is a listing that includes Perseus, L.L.C., Perseus-Soros Biopharmaceutical Fund, LP; Perseus-Soros Biopharmaceutical Investors, LP; and Perseus-Soros Management, LLC.
The White House has been reeling since McClellan's condemnations were made public. He served on the podium as press secretary during the Iraq war and Hurricane Katrina, but now has ripped the administration, accusing the president of not being "open and forthright" about the war.
He also makes accusations about "propaganda" and "manipulating" public opinion.
Former press secretary Ari Fleischer wondered aloud why, if McClellan had such misgivings about the president, he took the job in 2002. Current press secretary Dana Perino said the conclusions were "sad" and "puzzling."
Karl Rove, political guru and McClellan target, was unsympathetic.
"If he had these moral qualms, he should have spoken up about them. And frankly, I don't remember him speaking up about these things. I don't remember a single word," he told Fox News.
Soros once raised $75 million specifically to oust George W. Bush from the White House, at the time orchestrated opposition to U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, worked with President Bill Clinton to promote U.N. causes and at one point targeted Christian leaders who visited the White House in what was described as a "witch hunt."
