Dan, this sounds very good.

The only thing we have to check is the embedding feature. This is critically important to us because when people click on our Arutz 7 ads, they are sent to a special opening page where we encourage them to register on the Hebrew forum. On this special opening page, we want the embedded video to start playing automatically without the need for them to click again. Because if they have to click again, many new people will decide not to click. Liveleak's embedding system is bad because it requires people to have to click again. Shlomo will have to check the embedding feature on google. If it works well, we will use the system you have suggested, G-d willing.

Thanks again for everything, Dan!

5.  Other JTFers who have the know-how can take the subtitled video from Google and upload it onto Liveleak, ZooTube, Flix, etc.
<snip>

are you saying that the subtitle file can be downloaded by anybody?

where?

or are you saying that if you download the file from google video, e.g. with a website like keepvid, then it magically contains the subtitles?

For that part, I had originally meant that the video could be downloaded through a website like keepvid.  I assumed the subtitles would go with it since they automatically appear on the video, but this might not be the case.  That being said, I could email the subtitle file to anyone if they have a way to attach it to the video on some other site.  Google Video is the only place I know of where Overstream subtitles can be uploaded easily.

What you are calling "overstream subtitles", are actually subtitles stored in a standard format. They can be combined into the video, and then the video can be uploaded anywhere.

That is what I said and demonstrated earlier in the thread when I posted the kosher chickens video.

I did PM you last week with instructions on how to do it and my email address for you to send me the file..
I will PM you again.

Ok, I got your address.  I remember you sent me some instructions, but I'd like to eventually get to the point where I'm not doing any uploading, etc.  It takes a long time to get a finished product if I'm doing translations plus spending a lot of time downloading, combining, and uploading on multiple sites.  Most days I don't get home until very late afternoon so it's not feasible.  With Google Video and Overstream, I won't have to download anything once Chaim starts putting his videos on Google, which is nice.  I'll basically just have to translate and take care of a few other minor details.  So from now on, when I finish a translation, you'll get the subtitle file and link to the corresponding Google Video and you can do your thing.  If you could, when you get one uploaded to any site, please post the link in the thread for that particular video that I open in the JTF Hebrew Club section.  Thanks.

doing it would be more feasible for me if we have a more organised process..

it would make things easier if all the hebrew videos were available for download e.g. on a site like jtfarchive. Or easier, an FTP directory would be fine, I am sure we have one already.

Dan - you can then send me a zip of all your subtitle files.

(from there, it's fine, I can combine the videos with their corresponding files, zip them, put them on megaupload, and people can upload them to video hosting sites.  I can put the subtitled hebrew videos on rapidshare too).

The subtitle files are plain text, we can post them in the forum.

Clearly nothing is getting sorted out by PM. I even had to repeat myself 10 times here to get my points across.

if for some inexplicable psychological reason you can't zip them up, then maybe posting the contents of each file on the forum is better than nothing..  And maybe somebody can pluck up the intestinal fortitude to put them back into files, and zip them up, and maybe do something with them.

At the moment things are fine, videos are on google video, and that is probably the reason for the obvious intransigence.

I think it's only a matter of time that the main video hosting websites (besides google video) will support these subtitle files anyway.. liveleak will no doubt soon improve their rudimentary subtitle functionality. Others will follow, and are following.

Chaim,

I heard what you said on Ask JTF about not being able to get the videos onto Google.  I am now able to get your recent longer videos off of Flix and Liveleak, and I have managed to upload a few of them onto Google for translation on Overstream.  I also had problems at first, but was able to get around the problem by using Google’s Desktop Uploader, which allows you to upload videos that are 100 MB or more.  When you first go to upload a video, there is a link where it offers you this option.  I don’t know if you have already tried this or not, but it may allow you to upload your videos onto Google if you hadn’t tried it before.  In any case, I’m continuing to work on your latest videos and hope to eventually have them on Google and Overstream, which can both be embedded if needed.  At this point I’m sort of backing off the idea of doing the translations themselves on Liveleak, which I don’t think was designed for full subtitling but just a caption here and there on a video.  It would be much more time spent for a worse quality product.  I have, however, tried to communicate with Overstream to see if they could start supporting Liveleak and/or Flix, but they have not responded as of yet.

How do you download videos from liveleak?

Is it possible for whoever has all the hebrew videos on their computer, please put them in a zip file and on www.megaupload.com ?

note- alot of the youtube links to hebrew videos have gone down.

It would be useful to have a link to a zip file on megaupload.

How do you download videos from liveleak?

I downloaded a free Firefox browser, and they have free add-ons--one of which is a downloader that allows you to download videos from virtually any video sharing site.  So I've been using this because Chaim's newest videos are only put out on Flix.
