Very true. He helped save my life when the prison authorities were starving me. He was a very kind and righteous and moral man. He will be sorely missed.

I always liked Senator Helms. I liked him even more after Chaim told the story of how he helped Chaim out when he was in prison by seeing he got the right foods. That story told me more about Helms then I could have learned from any book or newspaper article. Rest in peace Senator Helms.

Senator Jesse Helms passed away today, the 4th of July 2008.

A champion of the Jewish people, who personally helped Chaim Ben Pesach when no one else would.

Anyone from his home State of North Carolina who needed Senator Helms' assistance was given it without regards as to their race, creed, background, or personal politics.

He will be remembered as a great American, the likes of which we may not see again.

He vigorously oppossed the resolution declaring MLK jr's birthday as a national holiday. He even presented evidence about MLK Jr's anti-American activities.

Because, truth be told, Helms used the "race card" to win all of his election campaigns.

No different than did all Southern politicians at that time.

In fact, Ronald Reagan used race to get elected also!

My condolences to the family of Jesse Helms. Sadly, the world lost a great man.

My Dad's 3 favorite elected officials from the 1960's to the time he passed away ( 1991 ) were Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, and Jesse Helms. Not necessarily in that order. He certainly supported Senator Helms financially. After reading about how Senator Helms helped Chaim in his greatest time of need, my appreciation for Senator Helms certainly increased. I only wish I could have shared the moment with my Dad, who had very strong Conservative opinions.

Interestingly, like John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two of America's founding fathers, Jesse Helms passed away on July 4. A terrific trio!

He was one of the most righteous senators this country ever had...and we know this in how he helped Chaim when he was in prison..I praise this man...even for this one thing he did for him.

It has been reported that as the hospital nurse was checking Senator Helms' fading pulse, he gasped one last half-breath and uttered his last words for all of posterity:

"Git yo' filthy hands off me!"..."you ugly schwartze!"

The late Senator, never one to hold a grudge within the world of politics, even sent a specially addressed private farewell card to none other than Secretary of State Congoleeza Rice.

It read: "See ya', Jig!"
