Microsoft Hawking Kinky Sex in New Ads

This is another example of how perverted our country has become. Microsoft is even resorting to innuendo and kinky sex to hawk the blunder of software known as Microsoft Windows. Here is an excerpt from the PC Magazine review of the ad:

Scenario: Two guys meet in a shoe store. The one guys offers a churro to the other—an obvious phallic symbol, possibly a code word. The guy refuses. So the guy with the churro starts to massage the other guy's foot, and asks about what he's feeling. The guy who relented at first says a definite code word: "leather." The two look furtively at each other for an uncomfortably long time. They scene is just short of a wink taking place. One mentions "showering" with clothes on. The next thing you know the twosome, now each holding rigid churros, walk off together. One asks the other to adjust his underwear as a "sign."

Now if this isn't some sadomasochistic, kinky pickup scene then what's the point? There is too much symbolism and footsy for this to be anything other than a tryst waiting to happen. Perhaps it is a parody of the "Mac versus PC" ads, which may have homoerotic overtones that nobody has considered, and this is Microsoft's way of asking, "What's with those two guys, anyway?"

The other possibilities for the ad include one I heard posited over the weekend: that it is somehow symbolic of Windows' versatility and affordability. The cheap store is a metaphor for cheap PCs or some such thing. I suppose anything is possible, but who's going to get it? It's too ridiculous.

I wouldnt put it past Microsoft to send subversive messages in their ads. Microsoft supports the gay agenda.

I just saw the commercial. I'm not seeing the whole kinky sex or gay thing like that article says. I think people lose credibility when they make blanketed statements like this about people being homosexuals who are obviously not homosexuals.

I think the commercial was ridiculous, boring, and I don't really see the point or how it related to business in any way. It just didn't make any sense at all. I would think spending the type of money they do (from what I understand, it was close to 10 million dollars), that they would come up with something much better than this. Imagine what we could do with only a tenth of the money they wasted on this garbage. Microsoft is another huge multinational corporation and gates is an egotistical elitist.

And I'm not so sure Seinfeld has done a lot of damage to the world. Maybe there's something I don't know. I do believe he has sold out by doing this commercial.

Bill Gates has donated a tremendous amount of money to human embryonic stem cell research and cloning.

He bought part of MSNBC and put out a lot of lies and bad press on competition (i.e. Linux) and was even caught using funded "Independent Analyst Groups". He (and Sun Microsystems) went so far as to give money to a company called SCO who sued numerous innocent companies (including Novel, SuSE, IBM, and Auto Zone) claiming that open source was illegal (which it is obviously not and lost in all court cases).

He's also buying up education companies and newspaper and media companies though the "Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation" (General Electric is also part of this).

Bill Gates and Ted Turner believe the world is over populated and believe that there needs to be a depopulation.

Dont tell me you are one of those Microsoft worshipping people? I have never thought much of Microsoft and they did not invent the Operating System, did not invent the Windows concept, and everything they do is derivative of the hard work which me and other have done. I have been in the industry for 20 years, long long before Microsoft, with their evil business practices, took over the industry. I can show you magazines from the 80s, all the great companies doing software development , and how many of those companies were destroyed by Microsoft.

I worked for a company which Microsoft bought and killed our product. Microsoft did not invent the web browser, did not invent the mouse, did not invent a single thing.

Why do you attribute these inventions to Microsoft? Did you buy Microsoft encyclopedia which re-writes history to make Microsoft appear to be the innovator instead of the thief?

My dear Muman - the role of MSFT is not the topic here and I am not going to argue your points. if you like, you can start a whole new thread on it. I am not worshiping MSFT - I worked with MSFT before and, G-d willing, will be working with them again  - they are a very tough and aggressive company and I am very concerned about their business practices. But it is their business and they run it as they see fit in order to increase their shareholders' value. I really do admire MSFT for what it is, for the challenges MSFT has overcome, for the incredible achievements they've reached, at the heart of which was Bill Gates. And Gates has contributed to increasing America's strength million time more than all of us combined. And MSFT is very very prominent in Israel - a huge chunk of XP and Vista was developed by MSFT Israel.

Besides, there is absolutely no gay theme in this commercial. The review was a spoof.

Microsoft is way overblown and I work virtually free of Microsoft. My company does work with Microsoft too but it is only a part of our business. I was interviewed by Microsoft in the year 1998 and although it is impressive I am very glad I never worked for them. I dont know how they sleep at night knowing how much harm they have done to many very intelligent and good software engineers.

I will say Microsoft Sucks. I have used every incarnation of Windows since Windows 3.1 which was the worst operating system ever invented. At the time I was the leading software engineer on a strategic project for Commodore Amiga which brought Novell Netware to the Amiga platform. AmigaOS was head over heels more advanced than Windows at the time. It was a true multitasking Operating system while Windows was a co-operative multitasking environment making Amiga much faster and much more appealing for sofware development. At the time we started to develop digital video hardware for the {386} platform and we got involved with Microsoft. Microsoft ended up stealing a good portion of the work we did and we had no recourse {aside from suing Microsoft}.

And as to the review... I noticed the homo bent on the ad when it first appeared. I dont need others to tell me what the subtext is.

I dont care too much for Sienfeld and I only saw a couple episodes of his show. I dont like shows about nothing. My time is too precious to waste on a show which goes nowhere.

I dont wish any of them ill. But I am sick of the advertisers using homo themes to push thier junk.

Muman, you are right about MSFT. But you think as SW engineer, not as a businessman and MSFT is a business and should be run like one. They were not exactly facing boy scouts in their competitors either. This is why Gates is so brilliant to combine genius business acumen and SW architect genius. And majority of their products are very good- Office, XP, SQL, .NET. OCS, etc. I don't know about VISTA - it seems quite stable now and very straightforward and user friendly.

I've never watched one full Seinfeld episode as well - never thought it was a bit funny and Gerry was downright annoying. I do love "Curb your enthusiasm", though!

I actually did not see any homo-erotic theme in this lame MSFT commercial. So, okay we see things different. Perhaps you are right as we know that there are so many gays are working in the advertisement industry, there may have been a certain sub-context to churo and Gate's but wiggling and walking down the parking lot together. I don't know - my hairdresser tells me that there are some subliminal and not so subliminal messages in advertisement that most gay people recognize, so it went over my head. By no means I am suggesting this about you, but perhaps the reviewer sees things like that is why he wrote this spoof review. Perhaps this review influenced the way you saw this commercial? Did you see the commercial prior to reading the review?

If you are wondering, I am a proud, almost 100% MSFT SW user (well except I am using Firefox instead of IE7). I am looking for a new laptop, and checked out Apple Macbook Pro - I was underwhelmed and for variety of business and personal preferences I am going with Sony Z series with Vista Business - I need to business tool not a toy. Oh yeah, I would not touch MS Windows Mobile with a 9ft stick - there, I made it up to you?

Thats cool. I dont really worry about MS much. In my field I can work with Linux and at home I play with Linux. I run mainly Ubuntu Linux { www.ubuntu.com } .

As far as the gay thing, it is just sad that we have to deal with this kind of stuff. I am not the kind of guy who minds hanging out with a bunch of guys. But today we just dont know which way the wind blows with a lot of guys. Im sure both Jerry and Bill are not gay themselves, but did they really think this kind of 'wink-wink' humor would really sell more copies of Vista? What are the Adpeople thinking these days?

The only reason I wrote about it is because at the time it ticked me off. I dont like MS and I dont approve of that lifestyle. Here I got to vent on both  .
