For the second straight week, "Saturday Night Live" used its huge platform to take a shot at the presidential campaign of John McCain.
Last week, Tina Fey delivered a spot-on (and not terribly flattering) send-up of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. This week, McCain himself is in the spotlight for a wicked spoof (conceived by former SNL star and now Minnesota Senate candidate Al Franken) on his campaign's negative ad.
The skit has it all -- from McCain's "my friends" verbal tic to his unfamiliarity with "new" technology like digital recording to his seeming confusion with his own negative ads.
Don't laugh. "SNL" has already shown an ability to influence the political campaigns this year; Amy Poehler's (generally) sympathetic portrayal of Hillary Rodham Clinton during the spring was seen as a factor in the re-rise of the New York Senator's candidacy.
