Well that's interesting, but "protection" or not, it is naive to think that a depression couldn't happen again.  If America's foreign creditors lose faith and call in their loans, what protection will be helpful?  Also, the depression was caused in part by bad weather and poor crops.  That could certainly happen again.  I agree that it is not likely to happen, but the right mixture of bad policy and bad luck could cause a depression.

Did they find what was killing them?

I thought they said it was a virus....a bee virus...if I remember correctly....
