Newmarket, ON, Canada - Jewish Group Protests Imam
Newmarket, ON, Canada - A Jewish group is considering sending people into a Newmarket mosque for services to investigate the involvement of controversial imam Zafar Bangash.
Meir Weinstein, JDL Canada national director, said his group will keep a close eye on the mosque if the facility's executive does not condemn the views of Bangash, the president of the Islamic Society of York Region, which has the Newmarket mosque under its umbrella.
Newmarket, ON, Canada - Jewish Group Protests Imam"We will continue to apply pressure and continue to monitor in the best way we can with investigators and police agencies," said Weinstein, one of 10 people at a protest opposing Bangash's link with the recently approved mosque. Bangash has raised eyebrows with statements criticizing American foreign policy and the leadership of Israel.
Asked if that means asking supporters of the group to attend services, Weinstein said, "More than likely."
