Independent or a puppet?
There is a interesting book written by Christopher Columbus, it is called "Book of Prophecies"

As far out as it sounds, The new world,,the USA did just that, fund Israel.
G-d never told Columbus that the new world (USA) would fight the fight, He just said it's wealth was going to pay for that last battle.
So anyway, me being a believer,in ; Chris did hear from G-d,
and also in the fact that G-d did say Israel will dwell alone,
I have to say Israel is independent, and now with Obama in the white house.
She has to be independent.
