Muslim countries should cut oil exports to those who support Israel and its crimes against the Gazans, a senior Iranian commander says. "Oil is among major stimuli that can put the pressure on Zionist regime's (Israel) supporters in the US and Europe," Brigadier General Mir-Faisal Baqerzadeh, Head of the Foundation for the Remembrance of the Holy Defense, said Sunday.
Tel Aviv's brutal attack on the Gaza Strip has entered its second week as Israeli ground forces push deeper into the densely-populated region.
On December 27, Israel launched its military operation on the Gaza Strip in order to stop retaliatory rocket attacks by the Hamas movement. Hamas, the democratically-elected government of the strip, is said to agree to stop its attacks if Tel Aviv accepts to lift its 18-month blockade of the coastal sliver.
So far Israeli forces have killed at least 500 Palestinians and wounded 2,790 others -- a large number of whom are civilians.
In his Sunday remark, the top Iranian commander said Tel Aviv's actions against the Palestinians have created an "anti-Israeli Tsunami" against the regime.
"The Islamic world needs collective will to help the oppressed people in Gaza. The army of Islamic countries should be set up to defend stance of Muslims," he said.
The influential Iranian general had earlier floated the idea that the time has come for Muslims around the world to militarily stop Israel's offensive on Gaza.
"Only the military option can save Gaza," he said.
