The problem is that nazism and communism happened at a time when America was America, men were men, good was good and evil was evil. Now the whole world is upside down. We had enough sense to recognize the evil of nazism and communism. It seems that many nowadays are unable to recognize what a threat Islam is, and so we do not fight it. The problem is not with our enemies, it is within us.
