Wow... I think one of the members here thought it would bottom out at 6500.... he's pretty close

It could.  Especially if more people start pulling their retirement/insurance accounts out of the market.

I am bummed out because I was just looking into mutual funds before all this BS hit the fan. Thankfully I didn't invest any of my money yet, but I'm already 30 and I need a retirement plan. What should I do?

Ruby, start buying gold or you can invest in a house, now is the time to buy real estate since it will go up eventually. This may be a good alternative ...when you need the money later you can cash out on your gold and reap an income from your home as a rental. I am glad to hear you are not going to invest in this risky about to fall market. P.S. If you invest in property you may not be able to sell for a while, but at least it is a safe investment.

As I watched Obama rise in the primaries, and then as I saw his chances for winning the Presidency get greater and greater, I had an enormous sense of doom.  And now it's coming to pass.  And after he won the election, I thought to myself, "Americans have become dumber than boxes."  (I'm an American, by the way.)   We gave the keys to the White House to the one guy who wanted to destroy this country as we know it.  And now he's succeeding.  Good going American voters!

They were saying it's the lowest it's been since 1997....
