Rocket fire from Lebanon sparks Israel retaliation
« on: September 11, 2009, 10:47:47 AM »
BEIRUT – Two rockets were fired from southern Lebanon into Israel on Friday, prompting Israel to respond with artillery fire, Lebanese security and military officials said.

The exchange, in which no casualties were reported by either side, was the latest in persisting tensions between the two archenemies. It was the fourth time rockets have been fired from Lebanon into Israel, each time bringing Israeli retaliation.

It was not immediately known who fired the rockets Friday. But radical Palestinian factions in Lebanon have been blamed in the previous barrages this year.

The border has been tense since Israel and the Lebanese Shiite guerrilla group Hezbollah fought a brutal 34-day war in 2006. More than 1,200 people in Lebanon and 160 in Israel died in the conflict. Hezbollah has a large rocket arsenal but is not believed to have used them against Israel since the 2006 fighting. It has denied involvement in previous rocket attacks on Israel.

Friday's exchange began with two rockets were fired into Israel from the area of the Lebanese town of Qlaileh, near the port city of Tyre, a Lebanese military official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the press.

One of the rockets hit near the northern Israeli town of Nahariya, Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. No injuries were reported. Israel's Channel 10 TV showed a telephone pole near a kibbutz not far from the border that was toppled by a rocket.

The Israeli military said it fired artillery at the source of rocket fire. The military "views this incident very severely and we hold the government of Lebanon responsible," a statement said.

At least two Israeli shells hit near Qlaileh, Lebanese security officials said, also speaking on condition of anonymity. Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported that nine Israeli artillery shells fell near the town, but there were no reports of casualties or damage.

Israel and Hezbollah have been increasingly exchanging warnings in recent weeks that they will retaliate against each other if either side sparks hostilities. The tensions come as Lebanese politicians are wrangling over the formation of a new government, which would likely include members of the Hezbollah-led opposition.

Israel has said that if Hezbollah is part of the Cabinet, it would hold the Lebanese government directly responsible for any attack by the guerrillas.

Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV reported on the exchange, but did not make any claim of responsibility.

The last exchange, blamed on Palestinian militants, across the border came in February. Palestinian militants also fired rockets across the border twice in January, during Israel's offensive on Gaza against the militant Palestinian Hamas.

*yawn* What BS. Bombing a couple empty port-a-potties in retaliation for yet another murderous Hezbollah attack. Wake up, Israelis. Lewinsky needs to be overthrown and sent back to his filthy kneepads in Obama's Oral Office.

I'm 100% sure that it wasn't only by the Hezbollah. Full Lebanon hates Israel, they want to go to war. Don't forget how wild muslim pigs they are! Israel has to show its power again. (But I'm not an expert) Grrrrrrrrr... :fist:

Yes, all Lebanon hates Israel, but Hezbollah is the undisputed controller of all Lebanon and its sole military force.

The policy should be that the places where rockets are fired from automatically become part of Israel and get cleansed of Muslim terrorists and their "civilian" supporters.

Idea...

But then they may be encouraged to fire from more places, new places and distant places.

Well then Israel can just annex more places, new places and distant places.

...And that should be the objective... till the enemies are no where.  ;D

On the same day rockets were fired from Pakistan province into Indian villages..

------------------------------------
AMRITSAR: Lashkar-e-Taiba has emerged as the main suspect behind the Friday night’s rocket fire into Indian villages from Pakistan side after Pak
Rangers claimed their troops had no role in the incident.

Four rockets had smashed into villages in Punjab, shattering the late night calm as they exploded in the fields and triggered a major scare. The attack had forced BSF — perhaps for the first time — to retaliate with machine gun and mortar fire.

The BSF has lodged a strong protest with Pak Rangers and sounded an alert along the border late Friday night soon after the attack. The attack came the same day BSF deployed its first women contingent along the international border in the Punjab sector.

There was no damage or casualty on the Indian side, BSF inspector-general Himmat Singh said. The 107 mm rockets landed about 2 km inside the Indian side at Modhey, Rattan Kalan, Dalkae and Dhoneya Khurd villages, near Attari.

BSF commandant Baljit Dhillon held a flag meeting with Pakistan Rangers at 1 am on Saturday and lodged a strong protest with Rangers’ leader wing commander Akbar Bhatt, who surprisingly denied knowledge of the attack or Pak army’s role.

Sources said the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, whose armed men now operate in the Pakistani state of Punjab, could be behind the attack.

In July, Pakistani security forces had seized a cache of arms, including 107 mm rockets — the kind used on Friday — from the arrested LeT men at Dera Gazhi Khan.

Following the rocket attack, BSF retaliated with machine guns and mortar shells from Pul Kanjari, Attari. The IG said this was perhaps the first such retaliatory action by BSF in this sector.

The BSF described the projectiles as 107mm rockets with a range of 8 km. The BSF said it didn’t have these kind of rockets.

Why not just make a topic about what happened in India instead of posting it here.
The topic is about Israel not India.

What retaliation? I guess this is what they mean by a proportionate one - they shoot two rockets and missed, we are going to shoot two artillery shells into an empty place too. EU and US are happy and we are good little Jews.
