Forget the 9mm, .45 Gold Dot HP on the hip with .38 spl in pocket for backup.  .45 is not a hard gun to shoot, even for a lady.

Not many people go far with a .38 inside them, excepting Popes, who perhaps get some help from above. Most attacks occur at point blank range, so there's a lot to be said for a old-fashioned snubnose .38 special that you can actually get to.
