Chanukah gelt/x-mas bonuses for JTF
« on: December 01, 2009, 11:47:24 PM »
Yes, I know I'm a hypocrite for not donating yet, but it's kind of hard with no credit card and a fixed income, but bli neder a shtickel kesef will be going to JTF. Having said that, it IS the holiday season, and whichever holiday you observe/celebrate there is always an added incentive to give tzedakah/charity. I'm not sure if JTF accepts money as an X-mas bonus, so let's just call it chanuka gelt ,lol. Every dollar helps, folks.

For those whose Hebrew is a little facacta I will translate:

"bli neder a shtickle kesef"

"No promise a little money"

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities
Duet 16:13-14

I still haven't found a good source about "facacta" which sound like "verkackter" in German, with the actual meaning of "[censored], lousy, miserable"...

I knew facacta meant not so good. Is shtickle another yiddish work that works in hebrew as well?
