An Israeli-American former FBI linguist pled guilty Thursday to unlawfully passing on classified documents to an unidentified blogger, the US Department of Justice announced.
 

 

The FBI contract worker, 39-year-old Shamai Kedem Leibowitz of Maryland, who also went by the name Samuel Shamai Leibowitz, admitted that he disclosed five FBI documents classified as "secret" concerning the communication intelligence activities of the United States, according to the Justice Department.

It is unclear what specific information he passed on as part of his illicit activities, which the Justice Department said took place between January and April of this year.

As worked out in the plea agreement, he is set to serve 20 months in prison.

"The willful disclosure of classified information to those not entitled to receive it is a serious crime," said David Kris, assistant attorney general for national security, in a statement put out by the USDepartment of Justice.

"Today's guilty plea should serve as a warning to anyone in government who would consider compromising our nation's secrets.

"As a trusted member of the FBI ranks, Leibowitz abused the trust of the FBI and the American public by using his access to classified information for his own purposes," said Special Agent in Charge Richard McFeely in the same statement.

Neither Leibowitz nor his attorney could be reached for comment by The Jerusalem Post. According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Leibowitz also has a past as a far-left Israeli peace activist who favored a one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Additionally, he is a grandson to Yeshayahu Leibowitz, the Orthodox Israeli philosopher who spoke out against Israeli's occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

According to Leibowitz's blog, he is a certified Hebrew-English translator and a lawyer able to work in New York and Israel. On his Web site, he attributes his favorite quote to Albert Einstein: "Laws alone can not secure freedom of expression; in order that every man present his views without penalty there must be spirit of tolerance in the entire population."

Leftist Lawyer Guilty of Leaking Classified US Documents

(IsraelNN.com) An American lawyer and linguist, who was born in Israel, has plead guilty to leaking highly classified FBI document to an Internet blogger and agreed to a prison sentence of 20 months. The final sentence will be decided by the courts.

The average sentence for similar offenses is approximately four years, but Pentagon analyst Jonathan Pollard is serving a life sentence in jail for leaking documents. The latest case involved Shamai Kedem Leibowitz, 39, who also is the grandson of the late outspoken leftist scholar and philosopher Yeshayahu Leiboiwtz. The younger Leibowitz worked as a linguist from January through August of this year and held top secret security clearance at an FBI Task Force in Maryland.

The Justice Department did not reveal details of what documents he leaked, but the FBI's Innocent Images initiative, an international task force aimed at child pornography, is located in the offices where he worked.

Leibowitz's “Pursuing Justice” blog reveals extreme left wing views, including condemnation of the Israeli "occupation” and the national religious camp. He also was on the defense team of Marwan Barghouti, the Palestinian Authority terrorist who is serving five life terms in prison for involvement in terrorist attacks on Israelis.

He supports the “one-state” solution, which implicitly would turn Jews into a minority in Israel, and has been active in a campaign to encourage American institutions not to buy Israeli bonds.

The U.S. Justice Department said that Leibowitz admitted giving a blogger five FBI secret documents relating to communication intelligence, but the blogger was not identified. "The willful disclosure of classified information to those not entitled to receive it is a serious crime," an assistant attorney general said. 1.   Some of you may remember Shammai Leibowitz.  He is the fanatic leftist anti-Israel Israeli lawyer who was the legal counsel for arch-terrorist Marwan Barghouti.  Leibowitz’s legal fees to represent Barghouti were covered by the New Israel Fund.  Shammai is grandson of the controversial late Yeshayahu Leibowitz, a far-leftist professor at Hebrew University, but also a very serious and intelligent Biblical commentator. 

 

In the past few years we have not heard much about young Shammai.  Until this past weekend.  Shammai, like his terrorist hero Barghouti, is prison bound.  Seems he just signed a plea agreement in the US, confessing to engaging in leaking of sensitive documents to bloggers and a pro-Palestinian group.   Shammai has been living in the US and got a job working as a translator for the FBI.  The fact that the FBI would hire this collaborator with terrorism from Israel tells you a lot about how much “intelligence” there is inside the skulls of the heads of the FBI these days. 

 

It was in that position that he leaked the documents.  The Jerusalem Post is coyly referring to Shammai as a “linguist” which he is not (see http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1261244336668&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull) .  Why he was not given a sentence at least as long as Pollard’s is not clear. 

 

Well, yes, it is clear.  Evidently Shammai was spying for the Palestinians!  He plead and got 20 months.  Did he also leak materials to the New Israel Fund?  Enquiring minds want to know!
