New Israel Fund Supports Anti- Israel Arab Politicians

Azmi Bishara is the ‘Israeli’-Arab fascist Knesset Member who has made a career out of running to Syria and Lebanon where he poses on TV hugging terrorists and calling for Israel to be annihilated. Those Israeli politicians who allow him back in the country should have been tarred and feathered. Bishara’s desire to see Israel annihilated has never been strong enough however for him to give up his generous Knesset perks. Within the past two weeks, Bishara fled Israel ahead of the subpoenas for treason that were expected to be issued imminently.

I think the most fascinating aspect of the new Azmi Bishara Affair is his intimate connection with the New Israel Fund (NIF). The NIF has long divided its resources between funding PC [politically correct] Israeli goofiness and funding anti-Israel treason.

Bishara is a Knesset Member from one of the Arab Stalinist-Fascist parties in Israel. Bishara has a long history of calling for escalated terrorist activity against Jews. That of course is all protected free speech in post-survivalist Israel. He has never been prosecuted for treason – unlike Oswald Mosley in Britain during the 1940s. (Mosley was the head of the pro-Nazi British fascists. Mosley, unlike Bishara, spent the war in prison, put there by Churchill. (But of course, Israel has been ruled by a series of Neville Chamberlains.)

When Yitzhak Rabin was killed, Bishara denounced him as a “mass murderer”. The Attorney General did nothing, preferring instead to throw into jail all those Jews who said “Got his comeuppance” about Rabin. Now you may recall that years back the New Israel Fund adopted Bishara as its official mascot. The New Israel Fund is a leftist Tikkun-esque fund in the US and Canada that raises money for politically correct causes in Israel, including Arab terrorism and treason. It also funds gay and “religious- pluralism” groups, but its main contribution is to funnel money into the countless tiny Marxist or communist-front “peace” groups, which could not exist without money from the New Israel Fund. It also paid the legal bills for the defense of arch-terrorist Marwan Barghouti, who was eventually sentenced to 5 consecutive life terms for being involved in a number of murderous terror attacks. [ed; and who is reportedly being considered by the Olmert crowd for release in the next ‘prisoner exchange’]

The “New Israel” that the New Israel Fund is funding is in fact the “New Arab Palestine.” About 10 years back, the New Israel Fund managed to hornswogle the Smithsonian Institute into letting IT organize the festivities to mark Israel’s 50th anniversary as an independent state. And who do you think the NIF decided should represent Israel? None other than Azmi Bishara, of course!! Just a typical sabra, kova tembel and all, eating felafel and melon!!

Of course Bishara is as representative of Israel as the NIF is of US Jewry. The New Israel Fund in fact planned to invite several others to stage one of those familiar Jewish-Arab unity events in which Jewish leftists join Arab fascists in calling for Israel to be destroyed.

At the time, the valiant Americans For a Safe Israel [AFSI] put a word in the ear of the Smithsonian, which – once it discovered who and what the New Israel Fund actually was – cancelled the taxpayer-funded jihad. The Tikkunites of the New Israel Fund then threw a tantrum and screamed about “McCarthyism” and suppression of free speech.

Born January 9, 1938, Peter Edelman is the board president of the New Israel Fund, an NGO founded in 1979 for the stated purposes of: fighting for civil and human rights, promoting religious tolerance and pluralism, and closing the social and economic gaps in Israeli society. During its history, the NIF has granted over $120 million to more than 700 organizations in Israel. Among the major beneficiaries of NIF grants are the Arab Human Rights Association, Hamoked, I'lam, Adalah, Ittijah, the Ahali Center for Community Development, the Arab Association of Human Rights, and Mossawa. These NIF-supported NGOs have strongly political, anti-Israel biases, which are reflected in the reports they publish on a regular basis.


Edelman is also a board member of the Center for Community Change, the Public Welfare Foundation, Americans for Peace Now, the Center for Law and Social Policy, and several other nonprofit organizations. Holding a joint degree in law and public policy from Harvard University, he has worked as a professor at Georgetown Law School since 1982. He took a leave of absence from his teaching duties during President Clinton's first term to serve as Counselor to Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala, and then as the Clinton administration's Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. He is married to Marian Wright Edelman, who founded the Children's Defense Fund in 1973.

Peter Edelman has also been Associate Dean of the Georgetown Law Center (1989-92); Director of the New York State Division for Youth (1975-79); and Vice President of the University of Massachusetts (1972-75). He was a Legislative Assistant to Senator Robert F. Kennedy from 1964-68, and was Issues Director for Senator Edward Kennedy's 1980 Presidential campaign. He began his career as a law clerk for U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Henry J. Friendly (1961-62), and then for Supreme Court Justice Arthur J. Goldberg (1962-63). From 1963-64, he worked in the U.S. Justice Department for Assistant Attorney General John Douglas.

Edelman authored the 2001 book Searching for America's Heart: RFK and the Renewal of Hope. He has also written many articles on poverty, constitutional law, and issues about children and youth. He was a passionate critic of Congress' passage of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, which was intended to move large numbers of people off the welfare rolls and into jobs. President Clinton signed the bill into law, thereby radically transforming America's welfare system. Mr. Edelman called this "the worst thing" Bill Clinton did during his Presidency. Similarly, his wife (Marian Wright Edelman) characterized the new law as the "biggest betrayal of children" she had witnessed in a quarter-century, and predicted that it would cause the starvation of a million black children.

The Edelmans could not have been more wrong. After the bill was enacted, America's welfare rolls declined by more than 50 percent, as millions of formerly dependent people were moved successfully into jobs where they were able to earn their own way instead of being the wards of American taxpayers. By May 2002, there were 2.3 million fewer children living in poverty than there had been in 1996.
