Why is it OK to denigrate Italians?

I am getting really fed up with all the Italian jokes. The more hysterical our politically correct society becomes, the more it is OK to scapegoat certain "allowed" groups. Somebody just sent me links to this very popular comedian Russel Peters, and he was doing a "make fun of Italians" routine, portraying them as uncouth thugs - the ususal stuff, you know. Nobody in the audience left. I am sure there are a lot of Italian-Americans there. This stuff should stop being acceptable. We should start saying "No" to these jokes. If I were in the audience, I would have walked out. He was also making a lot of jokes about how racist white people are. He even said that only whites can be racist. Disgusting.

One thing I started doing is telling people off when they make a "stupid blond" comment. I tell them that this is a racist comment and my opinion of them has just sunk very low. You should see some amazed looks. So far, no confrontations. I invite everyone on this board to start doing the same thing.

The best friend I ever had in the entire world was Italian..she was like a sister to me, I guess I have some Italian running through my blood now, too. I said they could delete it if they wanted. I get to hear blonde jokes my entire life now...(I'm a blonde) also Irish, German, Native American, they all have jokes too.

I apologize, I have Italian friends, I was picking on some of them. Maybe they all hate me now, I dunno. I hope not.

I don't know, it's true he's making fun of the "italian stereotype", but to be honest I don't find it so offensive. I mean I've seen worst in Hollywood movies and other US Tv shows.
Anyway you have good points, you can make fun of every white (and asian also) ethnic group by emphasizing their stereotypes, while you can't make fun of certain other groups or even just tell the truth about them like the "mmh-hmm" people (unless you are one of them).

I'm conflicted on this issue.  On the one hand I agree with you that it is not alright to belittle European heritage and that whites  (whether blond or Italian or whatever) need to start fighting back.  On the other hand I think ethnic jokes, of any kind, are funny.

I think people NEED to lighten up a bit! I'm a blonde, heard them all my life, and Polish, so you can IMAGINE the jokes I've heard..........and being my name is Dawn, have also heard THOSE jokes! Right now it is okay to denigrate Italians, Catholics, and White Heterosexual Men in movies, tv, etc. I've noticed that too.

In the movies, the Italians are mobsters, Guidos, etc. and white Heterosexual Men are either very evil men in suits (agent Smith from the Matrix types), or buffoons, and there's open hostitlity to the Catholics, every kind of attack on the Catholic Church is open season, like the movies the Davinci Code, and lately 2012 (where the Vatican gets demolished along with everyone praying in the packed square, note that Mecca was safe in that film). 

Notice that in reality, these groups that are being attacked represent men with very traditional role models, Italian/white men, masculine men, not a metro sexual or emasculated liberal type in the bunch. I think that is what the liberals in Hollywood consider one of their enemies, traditional masculine men, they've taken on the femanazi cause of the "feminist" (Bull Dyke) movement.

Also notice the behavior Hollywood puts out as a model for the women to follow, lately in films, the women are always hawk faced and scowling sarcastic nasty creatures, they'll never utter a line of dialogue without sarcasm and a scowl even when talking to a man that they supposedly like. Watch, now that I have pointed it out you will notice it.

The film and tv industry has been taken over by very evil people.

Pryor was very funny back in the 70's when humor like that was the trend... He had some very funny stuff back then. Today it's still slightly funny but not like it was  then... I guess the world has moved on....The thing about Pryor is some of his funniest stuff was when he did skits about black folks.

Interesting post and most likely the case!! The film industry is indeed populated by evil people. It is all part of the picture to destroy anything good about the American way of life. Young people today are very influenced by the media. People watch what comes out of Hollywood today and thing its all a historically correct documentary.
