Britain's Community Security Trust (CST), the Jewish community organisation which collects figures on attacks Jewish people and organizations, and advises organizations such as synagogues on security, said Friday that it recorded 924 incidents in 2009, 55% more than the previous high of 598 incidents in 2006. The trust said said the incidents, which included 124 acts of violence, shot up in January, during the Cast Lead counter-terror campaign in Gaza and took three months to return to normal levels.
Writing in the Jewish Chronicle, the trust's Mark Gardner said, "Whatever you think of Israeli politics, remember that, historically, antisemites have always justified their behaviour on some premise or other." He added that in recent weeks, the trust’s London and Manchester staff have undergone intense training courses provided by the Home Office’s Victims Support Unit to ensure that its service as first responders to the victims of antisemitic hate crimes is as good as it can be.
