The U.S. should support an Israeli military strike against Iranian nuclear installations if the Jewish state, fearing diplomacy has failed, ultimately takes that course of action, stated former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

Asked whether the U.S. should support an Israeli strike, Huckabee replied, "Absolutely."

Huckabee was speaking in a WABC Radio interview with Aaron Klein, WND's senior reporter, who has been hosting a weekend show on the New York mega-station.

Listen to Klein's interview with Huckabee:

"We've got to remember that for Iran, Israel is not the primary target. The United States is. They see [Israel] as certainly an enemy," Huckabee said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he continued, "has made clear that he would like to wipe them off the face of the earth."

"The real reality is his rhetoric says that the Great Satan is the United States," Huckabee explained. "So he sees Israel as a little devil, but he sees the Unites States as the Great Satan. Anything that is done to Israel is not being targeted solely toward Israel. The ultimate target is the United States."

Speaking to Klein last night, Huckabee slammed President Obama's Mideast policies.

"The president seems to be more concerned about whether or not Jewish families build bedrooms on their apartments than whether Iran is building a nuclear bomb," said Huckabee.

The ex-governor was referring to the Obama administration's longstanding demand that Israel halt all Jewish construction in the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem as a gesture to re-start talks with the Palestinian Authority.

In December, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a 10-month West Bank settlement freeze.

Obama "has given explicit orders to the people of Israel not to extend any building in land that they themselves own, saying that these are illegal settlements and it would hinder the peace process," said Huckabee.

Huckabee warned Obama's bid at diplomacy with Iran is failing, noting talks have been "very ineffective."

"We all hoped these sanctions would work so that military action wouldn't have to be taken," he said. "But I don't know that the Iranians are taking any comments from the U.S. to be all that serious."

Huckabee has been in Israel to lead a tour of the country. He was honored last week at the Knesset, where he stated he would become a voluntary ambassador for Israel.

About obama supporting a strike on iran...I don't think he will because he is a muslim first, loyal to islam. I think obama will fight the possibility of a strike on iran despite what his advisors tell him.

If there is a strike on iran, I suspect it would come from a Republican President in 2012.

We hope for that anyway....
