Elijah Friedeman, the Millennial Perspective

The latest from Rasmussen shows that Americans favor capitalism by a wide margin. But is that margin wide enough?

Sixty percent (60%) of U.S. adults nationwide say that capitalism is better than socialism. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 18% disagree, while 21% are not sure.

There are two ways to look at this data. On the one hand I'm surprised that only 60% of all adults in America think capitalism is the way to go. That's just insane. on the other hand when you consider the constant attacks that capitalism has endured in recent years, I'm almost surprised that even 60% of adults still think capitalism is the way to go.

Scarier than the 60% number is that young people are actually closely divided on the question. Read that again. Young people are closely divided about whether capitalism or socialism is better. The conservative pessimists should have a heyday with that statistic.

And while not scarier than that but definitely crazier, only 43% of Democrats favor capitalism over socialism. Only 43%. And people wonder why we have a screwed up economy.
