p.s.
The Red Army of the U.S.S.R crushed Hitler's Wermacht and turned Goering's planned two week conquest of the USSR, "Operation Barbarossa", into a chaotic retreat all the way to Berlin.
Had Hitler taken the Soviet Union as he had planned, the likelihood of our winning WWII would have been greatly diminished.
Had Hitler NOT opened a second European front to Germany's east, his forces would have been fully intact, formidable, and resistant to invasion, and the cost of victory to the U.S.A would have been enormous.
Hitler would have been unopposed master of the entire European land mass.
Of course, it's usually at this point that all the members who learned history from a John Wayne movie will immediately begin attacking me as a "commie" or "pinko" or "liar" etc...
So...All who don't know history, go on and have your fun. I could care less.
The FACTS surrounding the Allied victory in WWII bear no relationship whatsoever to the evil Soviet Communist government, its political philosophy, and its policies.
It stands duly noted that the USSR was INVADED by Nazi Germany, suffered almost incalculable losses in men and materials, came very close to being defeated.
Yes...Stalin at first signed a pact with Hitler -- and so forth and so on....we all know the story -- which again has no bearing on the fact that the USSR defeated Hitler on the European continent and chased the Wehrmacht back all the way to Berlin.
We in the U.S.A. suffered no such invasion of our home territory.
Facts are facts, and the fact is that it was the efforts of the USSR which turned the tide of the European War.
p.s.s. -- another 'inconvenient truth' --
It was Prime Minister Andrei Gromyko of the USSR who gave an impassioned plea at the UN podium in 1948 for the world's official recognition and establishment of The State of Israel, casting a "da " vote for the USSR!
He stated that the USSR recognized Zionism to be the legitimate national liberation movement of the Jewish People, and must therefore be accorded legal legitimacy as a genuine "peoples' struggle in the world fight against imperialism, colonialism, and anti-Semitism.
