Miley CyrusA Christian mother and author has written an open letter to the parents of Miley Cyrus about the career path the young star is on.
Miley Cyrus is best known for the hit Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana, the show that skyrocketed Cyrus to fame and has garnered her a huge following among young girls.
Her parents, Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus, are evangelical Christians who say they have raised their daughter with biblical values and principles. But the teenage superstar's latest music video for the song "Can't Be Tamed" -- which features the young singer in a black leotard with birdlike accessories -- has raised some eyebrows.
Dannah GreshDannah Gresh, along with her husband Bob, founded PureFreedom.org, a ministry that promotes and encourages sexual purity until marriage. She has written an open letter on her blog to Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus.
"I've been very positive up until this point. I've tried to say everything I can that's good, because there are a lot of great things that Billy Ray and Tish have planted into their daughter," Gresh notes. "In many ways, she is a good role model. But when she makes a video as sexual as this, and then is interviewed after it and says, 'This is just the next step of growing up. My fans have grown up with me, and this is the next step,'" the ministry founder thinks something should be done.
So she encourages parents to talk with their children about the music video.
"For two or three days, I wrote about how to talk to your daughter about Miley Cyrus, and I just posted some thoughts on what [you] can do if you have a teenage daughter who's kind of caught up in the Miley train," Gesh explains. "I think...at that point the video is not so horrible that you can't watch it with your teenage daughter and then discuss it with her."
Gresh argues that Cyrus does not have to be overtly sexual in order to maintain her success and following.
