The "accepted thinking" about the late Senator Joseph McCarthy which I was taught in school all the way up through college, was that he was a vicious "Red-baiting" right-wing monster who betrayed the Constitution by abusing the civil rights of innocent people, and destroyed their lives and livelihoods in order to selfishly promote his own political career.

There were also rumors and intimations about his supposed morphine addiction and alcoholism.

I never really knew much of him, nor did I care.

So one day about fifteen years ago I rented a video documentary from a video store to watch filmed minutes of the trials at which he presided, calling up as witnesses a wide range of Hollywood executives as well as top actors and actresses.

The only impression which remained with me after watching the 2 hr. long documentary of the trials at which McCarthy and his two young protege attorneys cross examined the witnesses, was that I was watching one old besotted closet queen fag and his two undeniably fag sissy boys who were all 'doing each other' behind the scenes when not acting like super patriots in public.

Now...before anyone here jumps in my shi_t to proclaim me some kind of commie for those comments, let me continue.

I remember remarking to myself upon watching the effeminate mannerisms, hair style, and persona of the one young Jewish attorney seated at McCarthy's table "Jeez!"..."I can't believe that these guys here are the ones who are so famous for going after communist infiltrators way back in the 1950s!"..."They are undoubtedly all as queer as a three dollar bill!"  "I don't know how all of the GOP stalwarts there even allowed these guys to do anything in public, let alone be filmed and put on television!"

I don't even recall the name and face of one of the two young attorneys.  But the one seated closest to the Senator was named Roy Cohn.  He had a very long and lucrative career as a New York City attorney, was a friend of President Richard M. Nixon, and made a lot of money during his lifetime.

AND HE DIED OF AIDS IN HIS UPSCALE MANHATTAN PENTHOUSE.

I must say even with some of the bad stuff in the article Roy Cohn's wickidpedia article really has him rubbing elbows with some of the big names in the news back then... The jury is still out yet on Joseph McCarthy and company... I seen a few things that say he was a crack pot then again I have also seen some stuff that said he was on the right track.... Time will tell.

And even every person who is "all evil" is only allowed to be "all evil" by Hashem, thus the evil has a good purpose but we cannot understand what it good about it at the time...

It's not so much a good vs bad thing when it comes to McCarthy its more of was he on the right track... I myself don't believe he was targeting people needlessly... 20 years ago I might have had a more negative view point on McCarthy but I have seen a few things about him in the past few years that said he may have been  the right track... As we see today our government is overrun by leftist with an leftist agenda that has been installed there over the years... At some point there is always the ah...ha moment where the picture becomes clear... I don't think we have reach that point yet with McCarthy but we are getting very close to it.

I have looked through a few youtube videos and haven't been able to find anything with him sitting next to anyone effeminate looking. Do you have any idea where any video footage of that would be?

I think Massuh's right about McCarthy possibly being gay. A lot of famous people might have been but didn't talk about it in public because they didn't want to get into trouble for it.  

Absolutely horrible things used to be legally done to gays sometimes, especially gay men. Turing the computer scientist, for example was forced to take estrogen to "chemically castrate" him (the only other option was prison, where he would likely have been raped) which caused him to grow breasts. To me that's not a good, Biblically based way to treat anybody at all and denies people basic human rights.

You might be right, but you must realize that the times of Senator McCarthy were much different than those we live in.

In the 1950's ANYONE in favor of Negroes having the rights to vote or attend schools anywhere or live anywhere they wanted was considered a Communist Party fellow traveler.

And still at that time Jews met with many social barriers throughout America.

The only political party in the U.S.A. which called for equal rights and fairness for all creeds and colors was the Communist Party U.S.A. .

It was also the only political party calling for equality of women in the work place and for an end to overseas colonialism.

Sound unbelievable?

This is the truth.

So ... many naive people who believed in "fairness" and ending exploitation of people were attracted to the Communist Party back in the 1930's and 1940's, and during WWII the USSR was an ally of the U.S.A., which left many sympathetic to its ideology openly active during the 1950's when our former ally turned enemy.

Keep in mind also, that comedians who used "off color humor", made fun of authority figures or religious figures, were routinely arrested on stage by uniformed policemen, beaten severely, arrested, and tried on obscenity charges.

Musicians like the great Gene Krupa who was caught in Kansas City buying a nickel matchbox of marijuana was arrested, beaten, tried, and sentenced to prison for "narcotics addiction", which meant that his "Cabaret Card" was revoked, which meant that he was also forbidden to work when he got out of prison for quite some time.  Same story is true with hundreds of other great music stars from that era.

Very different times than those today, and not necessarily always better ones.

It is most definitely against the law to call for the overthrow of the Government of the U.S.A. .
