That Bob Guccione Sr. is certainly in a very warm place right now.
I remember a while ago watching a special about him on television. Surprisingly, when Penhouse first started, they hired many women to sell their advertising. In fact, they interviewed one woman who was I think, the publisher of either Redbook or Goodhousekeeping (or one of those magazines) who said many female consumer magazine publishers got their start in the business selling advertising at Penthouse.
In a past life, I used to sell magazine advertising. There was one woman in my office who was a national sales manager of another publication. Before that she also used to be a media planner. She once told us how those Penthouse reps meet with her in person to go over the media kit, and also flip through the magazine non-chalantly. She said they were very business-like in their peddling of smut.
