Israel's size and location makes it a great place for cars powered by electricity...Here in America it would be quite a different thing... Electric cars are becoming more popular however until they are able to achieve better ranges something like 250 to 300 miles on one charge they will never replace conventional automobiles as the primary family car... Things here are far more spread out and people often travel a hundred miles or so in one direction... The system Israel was working on a few years back where the car battery was replaceable by stopping in to a service center and the run down battery was swapped out with a fresh one seemed promising... People here in America are not going to want a car that can only travel a hundred miles or so before needing down time to recharge. Even a bigger stumbling block is the fact that most of our electricity here is generated by burning oil or coal... Coal would be OK however oil is still a problem.
